Business Challenges
Hathway had the following business challenges
to be achieved by deploying a cost effective
subscriber management and billing system.
l	 Manage centralized information of
subscribers, billing, inventory & logistics,
customer care, financial management
l	 Integrate with multiple CA systems.
Hathway uses NDS and Scientific Atlanta
CA systems to reduce the dependency and
facilitate customers switch from other
service provider to Hathway without any
need of changing their set top box.
l	 After CAS roll out, a system is needed
which can fulfill all the requirements of
TRAI regulations and provide reports like
Broadcasters report, QoS reports and
addressing all other requirements.
l	 Compliance with the statutory taxation
requirements
l	 Give end-to-end inventory control and
centralization of logistics process
l	 Accurate generation of monthly bills, charge
level distribution, service tax calculation,
aging, calculation of commissions and
reports for revenue recognition etc are the
major challenges.
l	 Ensure that data porting from the existing
SMS system is smooth, as the existing system
had live data, with many porting related
technical challenges.

l	 Apart from core billing, one of the
most crucial challenge was inventory
management, which is now centralized by
deploying Billing and CRM Solution.
l	 Equipped on-field force to do remote
transactions with Billing and CRM Solution
Business Model
Hathway is centrally operated from its head
office Mumbai, with head-ends across all the
regional offices in India. It distributes content
through Head-ends and franchises, who in turn
distribute it to their subscribers. Hathway
offices and franchisee are connected to head
office through a huge fiber optic network.
Hathway has two different Business Entities,
Primary and Secondary. Hathway has its
offices located in all metros & major cities
in India like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkotta,
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, etc., and
these offices are Primary Business Entities.
Secondary Business Entities are the Franchises
appointed by Hathway to offers its services
to end subscribers. The franchisee located
in various cities, distributes the services on
behalf of Hathway and share the revenue. The
Distributors/Head Ends book the subscribers
and place the order for the required packages.
The Head-ends in turn put a request to the
respective regional offices to approve the
orders.
Hathway provides services in two different
ways, CAS rollout & Digital rollout. Hathway
has effectively and smoothly rolled out
conditional access system (CAS) at Chennai. In
digital roll out, Hathway is selling digital STBs
on wholesale bases across metros & major
cities in India. This will facilitate Hathway in
rolling out CAS in future across India.
Hathway has a central warehouse at Mumbai.
The materials distributed from warehouse to
last mile operator / dealer through state, city
& area and vice-versa. The subscriber will buy
the STBs from the dealer and gets the service.
Hathway has multiple stock points in an area.
Dealers in an area can collect the inventory
from any one of the stock points in that area.

Solution Highlights
Service innovation
Magnaquest provided solution to handle bulk
activation of services to meet the sudden surge
in demand due to promotions/events. Hathway
is using this option to pre-activate the STB’s
and distribute to distributors/dealers. This
enables Hathway to reduce the installation
time, Subscriber is able to enjoy the services
immediately and eliminate the faulty boxes
before they are shipped to the Distributor/
Dealer.	
Franchisee/ Reseller
Management
At Hathway, multiple taxes are imposed on
each sale that is made. The taxes could be
sale tax, lease tax, service tax etc. The taxes
should be applied on each sale of subscription
/ hardware/ other services, taxes have to be
paid and have to be reflected in the invoice generated. The comprehensive Tax module in Billing
and CRM Solution has enabled the definition of following tax rules to handle the multiple taxes
on sale of several services and hardware items.
• Define taxable and non-taxable components of the sale.
• Type of taxes - whether sale tax, lease tax, service tax, etc and on which components they are
applicable
• Geographical location based taxes
• Tax on tax (Surcharge)
ICC/STB Association
The pairing process is required to enable the ICC and STB to operate together. Billing and CRM
Solution sends a pairing request to CAS once the association is successfully done. This doesn’t
allow unauthorized subscriber to avail the services. This avoids the under declaration of
subscribers at dealer level.
Hardware Replacement
Subscribers may return the hardware in case of repair or replacement and will take new
hardware. In this case Billing and CRM Solution handles the un-pairing of ICC and STB and new
paring with new/replaced hardware and transfers the services existing on the old smartcard to
the new smartcard.

In digital roll out, Hathway is selling digital STBs on wholesale bases across metros & major cities in India. This will facilitate Hathway in rolling out CAS in future across India. Hathway has a central warehouse at Mumbai. The materials distributed from warehouse to last mile operator / dealer through state, city & area and vice-versa. The subscriber will buy the STBs from the dealer and gets the service. Hathway has multiple stock points in an area. Dealers in an area can collect the inventory from any one of the stock points in that area. The logistic hierarchy is strictly followed by Hathway Solution Highlights Service innovation Magnaquest provided solution to handle bulk activation of services to meet the sudden surge in demand due to promotions/events. Hathway is using this option to pre-activate the STB’s and distribute to distributors/dealers. This enables Hathway to reduce the installation time, Subscriber is able to enjoy the services immediately and eliminate the faulty boxes before they are shipped to the Distributor/ Dealer. Franchisee/ Reseller Management At Hathway, multiple taxes are imposed on each sale that is made. The taxes could be sale tax, lease tax, service tax etc. The taxes should be applied on each sale of subscription / hardware/ other services, taxes have to be

The comprehensive Tax module in Billing and CRM Solution has enabled the definition of following tax rules to handle the multiple taxes on sale of several services and hardware items. • Define taxable and non-taxable components of the sale. • Type of taxes - whether sale tax, lease tax, service tax, etc and on which components they are applicable • Geographical location based taxes • Tax on tax (Surcharge) ICC/STB Association The pairing process is required to enable the ICC and STB to operate together. Billing and CRM Solution sends a pairing request to CAS once the association is successfully done. This doesn’t allow unauthorized subscriber to avail the services. This avoids the under declaration of subscribers at dealer level. Hardware Replacement Subscribers may return the hardware in case of repair or replacement and will take new hardware. In this case Billing and CRM Solution handles the un-pairing of ICC and STB and new paring with new/replaced hardware and transfers the services existing on the old smartcard to the new smartcard.
