I worked for a small printing company in the billing and accounting part of the company. After working there for just a short time, I started noticing some bills that were coming in that did not seem be company related, such as golfing and Nascar memorabilia.
Neither of these two hobbies had anything to do with the printing company or any company activities.
I can do nothing. I can confront the owner. I can quit my job.
Yes, claiming these expenses as business related is illegal; it is not right; but it is not technically harmful.
In my situation, I decided to wait it out a short while so that I could find a new job. I am a husband and father and had my family to think about. I could not just up and quit and leave my family with no income. Fortunately, I was able to find new employment within a couple weeks. After securing new employment, I did then confront the owner. He would not come out and admit anything. He told me it was none of my business and to just do my job. I gave my 2 week notice, and he ultimately asked me to leave at that moment and not finish out my two weeks; which was fine with me.
