We are Pre-K! PKSC PKEM PKLG
Daily Routines
All By Myself! The children are learning to do daily tasks “All by Themselves!” We encourage them to try their best and practice to celebrate their accomplishments.
Free Exploration Free exploration is critical in Early Childhood. Social skills and imaginative play are cursory for future success.
Morning Meeting Morning Meeting is a time when the class comes together to discuss the day’s events, go over the calendar and share any news or information. We sing songs and play games to create a community of learners.
Social and Emotional Development Skills include: Self-help Cooperation Takings turns Sharing Manners Expressing needs and feelings Problem solving Conflict resolution Respecting each other
Language Arts All classes use an Emergent Literacy approach. This includes pre-reading and writing skills, inventive spelling, concepts of print, and common sight words. Science and social studies curriculum are integrated during the Language Arts block, as well as ESOL strategies.
Math/Science SAS uses Everyday Math curriculum. We combine this curriculum with larger themes and projects. The basic skills include: counting, sorting, classifying, graphing, patterns, measurement, colors and shapes.
Thematic Curriculum Students will learn all previous concepts (Math, Language Arts, Science, etc.) through a thematic approach that include five large projects throughout the year. Expressing Myself Friendships We are the Same; We are Different Natural Resources in my Environment Changes and Cycles
Lunchtime The children sit as a class group during lunchtime each day. They are served a balanced meal and are encouraged to eat their vegetables while using good table manners. Students are allowed to eat as much as they want, as long as they eat what’s on their plate first.
Snack Time Nourished and hydrated children tend to perform better at school. Pre-K students eat a morning and an afternoon snack. We encourage healthy lifestyles so please help support us by sending in healthy snacks only!
Recess “Brain Breaks” are important for everybody, but especially for young children. Our Pre-K students get ample opportunities to exercise and socialize numerous times a day.
Quiet Time This is a time for your child to gather their thoughts and reflect on the day’s events and prepare themselves for the second half of the day.
