Lesson 1: Adjectives

-An adjective is a word that describes a noun or a pronoun. Many
adjectives tell what kind or how many.

    Encyclopedias have accurate information. (what kind)

    A library have several dictionaries. (how many)



-An adjective can appear before the noun it describes, or it can
follow a linking verb.

    The article was important.

-Adjectives often appear before the nouns they describe.

-Two or more adjectives used before a noun are usually separated by
a comma. A comma is not needed when one of the adjective tells how
many.

Lesson 2: Articles

-Articles are special kinds of adjectives. The words a, an, and the are
articles.
             a truck       an airplane      the shoe factory

-You often use a, an, or the before nouns.

-Use a and an to refer to any person, place thing or idea.
    +A is used before words beginning with a consonant.
        A leader is speaking against air pollution.

    +An is used before words beginning with a vowel.
        An agency is working to stop pollution.

-Use the to refer to a particular person, place, thing or idea.

    The pollution of air, water, and land must stopped.

  • 2. Lesson 1: Adjectives -An adjective is a word that describes a noun or a pronoun. Many adjectives tell what kind or how many. Encyclopedias have accurate information. (what kind) A library have several dictionaries. (how many) -An adjective can appear before the noun it describes, or it can follow a linking verb. The article was important. 2
  • 3. -Adjectives often appear before the nouns they describe. -Two or more adjectives used before a noun are usually separated by a comma. A leader is speaking against air pollution. +An is used before words beginning with a vowel. An agency is working to stop pollution. -Use the to refer to a particular person, place, thing or idea.
