13. Having lived in Chicago for many
years, I have visited the Art Institute
more times than I can recall. Your
panorama views of the various areas
are impressive, as is "Pathfinder.”
To visit a museum is a tremendous
experience, to virtually tour a
museum isn't too far away.

Inspiration for the PATHFINDER: The construction of the Modern Wing Increased our gallery square footage by 1/3 bringing us to over 1 million sq ft Already complicated floor plan Even more importantly-we wanted something to help our audiences best experience the museum and discover the collections
We wanted a new way to showcase what the Museum had to offer that fit into the overall wayfinding system. Usual suspects that we are all familiar with: wall maps, directional signage, stanchions and overheads, volunteer assistance and hand held maps Working collaboratively with interactive designers at Slate Roof Studios, MapsAlive developers at AvantLogic and a host of internal collaborators--including architects, data managers, imaging, designers, curators, shop, IS, etc--we developed PATHFINDER
Here we see one of 7 PATHFINDERS installed at the Art Institute PATHFINDER allows visitors (onsite or virtual) to find a path to discover the museum and hopefully inspire them Focus on ARTWORK - from Collection Management Data, EXHIBITION & EVENTS - from Web calendar feeds, PLACES - Custom created XML of popular Museum destinations, and AMENITIES - markers within MapsAlive Interested in data part-stop by the table
