4. Line listing at Transit Points -
Methodology
Mapping carried out by team of 5 people each in the transit points.
Line listing of mobile population carried out over three months
Line listing of mobile population carried out during the time mobility
takes place (first bus to last bus of the day).
Line listing carried out through a combination of methods.
Not counting those who cross the border daily or those who come for
local trading or truckers.
Data is collected from as many people as possible regarding their
source, destination and other details.
Approximately 70% of the total population who cross over provided
information about themselves at Gaurifanta / Dhangadhi
Approximately 90% of the total population who cross over provided
information about themselves at Gaddachouki / Banbasa
Data presented here is analysis of over three months.

The number of buses that leave from the two transit
points for each destination also gives us an indication of
the volume of mobile population in that direction
9. Projection Analysis – Methodology 1
As 70% of the mobile population was listed at
the Gaurifanta transit point, an additional 30% of
the population has been calculated
proportionally in each category.
Similarly as 90% of the mobile population was
listed at Gaddachouki, an additional 10% of the
population has been calculated proportionally in
each category.
The results of the above calculation is shown in
the next three slides.

Approximately, 1,00,000 Nepali Mobile population cross
over into India in a year through the two transit points[1]
Out of that, approximately 12000 come to Delhi as
destination and 8500 come to Mumbai from the two sites
of Accham and Kanchanpur.

Estimates from 20 locations around NCR
Filtering out categories like single, within India for 5years
leaves us with an impact population of: 3650
If we do not have these criteria, the impact population
will become approximately 30,000 in Delhi.
19. Estimated Mobile population
The Reaching Across Border Project carried out by FHI
reached approximately 40,000 Nepali Population in
Mumbai (3 years).
The project worked with all Nepalis at certain specified
areas (did not curtail impact population by source
districts).
The project worked at 4 districts of Nepal as source sites
Based on the above figures, the approximate number of
impact population for EMPHASIS would be 3360.
If we relax the criteria for impact population, another
25,000 can be reached in Mumbai.
21. Estimated Mobile population
Approximately 7000 people cross over the
border undocumented.
Approximately 65000 people from Bangladesh
are found in the locations mapped.
Approximate number of people who have come
from Jessore and Satkhira is 9750
If we relax the criteria, approximate impact
population would be 10,000.
23. Conclusion
Need to relax limiting Impact population criteria
In tune with revised NACO strategy
Makes intervention feasible.
Broaden intervention to reach all
Nepalis/Bangladeshi in a destination/transit site,
while also focusing on the continuum.
