                                      RESOLUTION
      WHEREAS, September 1 5 through October 1 5 is designated as
National Hispanic Heritage Month in America and is dedicated to
celebrating the history and contributions of 1-lispanic and Latino Americans
to include those from Spain, Mexico. the Caribbean, and Central and South
America; and

          WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 as Hispanic
Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded to a 30-
day period (September 15 October 15) and signed into law by President

Ronald Reagan on August 17, 1988; and

       W FIEREAS, the Hispanic/Latino American population has grown
to become the largest minority group in the United States, while the state
of Ohio is proud to be called home by more than 350,000 people who
make up 3.1% of the state’s population; and

       WHEREAS, according to the 2010 Census, Ohio’s
Hispanic/Latino population grew by 63.4 percent since 2000 and nearly
tripled since 1980; and

       WHEREAS, the Hispanic/Latino American population has
contributed significantly to Ohio’s economic, business, and community
development and continues to increase the awareness of issues and
concerns to Ohio’s Hi spanic/Latino community; and

       WHEREAS, the Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs
(OCI-ILA), serves as a critical hub for Ohio’s Hispanic/Latino community
and has helped to develop a statewide network of community organizations
that provide valuable services and resources to their local communities.

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, John R. Kasich, Governor of
the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize September 15 October 15,

2012 as

           HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
throughout Ohio and invite all Oliioans, especially our Hispanic/Latino
community, to join in this celebration with appropriate observances and
activities in the greatest traditions of the Hispanic/Latino heritage
On this    15111   day of September, 2012;
