2. Your mission is:
• Pair up – or jump in a 3, or do this individually – your choice (try
your best to pair up)
• You will have a timer between you to share.
• 1. One person will time, the other will walk/run 100m
• When finished, record the time you took to run/walk.
• 2. Swap – the timer will now run 100m, the runner will now time.
• Make sure to record the time it took you to run/walk 100m!
• We will come back up here and calculate our speed!
3. Speed can be measured in:
•Kilometres per hour (km/h)
•Metres per second (m/s)
8. Question
•Daisha drove her
car 70km at an
average speed of
35km/h – How
long was the
journey?
Distance = 70km
Speed = 35 km/h
• Time = distance ÷ speed
• Time = 70 ÷ 35
• Time = 2
• We have used the unit
“kilometres per hour” so our
answer is 2 hours
9. Question
• John missed the
bus to had to walk
home from school.
It took him 2 hours.
His average speed
was 6km/h – how
far away from
school does John
live?
Speed = 6km/h
Time= 2 hours
• Distance = speed x time
• Distance = 6km/h x 2 hours
• Distance = 6 x 2
• = 12 kilometres
10. Question
•Kritesh ran 100m
in 9.58
seconds, what
was his average
speed?
Distance = 100m
Time= 9.58 seconds
• Speed = distance ÷ time
• Speed = 100 ÷ 9.58
• Speed = 10.43
• So Kritesh was travelling at
10.43 meters per second
(m/s)
