In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?,[object Object]
A,[object Object]
B,[object Object]
C,[object Object]
Our target audience is the young adult aged between 18 and 25 and we created a hybrid genre of romantic tragedy. However after audience research we believe poster C in particular appeals to a more mature adult audience. Poster A may also loose its target audience as it has no human connection as it has no characters featured. However as it is a teaser poster and was the first to be released it was only intended to give a striking memorable image to the possible audience we want to attract. The other two poster would be released at a later date give more information about what it’s audience can expect form the film. The bare tree tells you that there is a tragic event in the film but due to other elements such as colour and the romantic feel the audience is also aware there are big themes about life and death the title also reinforces this ‘Family Tree’,[object Object]
The direct mode of address between the characters and audience is unique they seem to be almost calling to the audience. Each character is also labelled with their name. More conventional looking character occupies the centre, the middle character suggests fun unlike others.,[object Object],Landscape format,[object Object],Film looks fun and youthful but outside the normal Hollywood genre. The audience going to see this film are taking a risk.,[object Object],Proxemics: each character is given equal amount of space. All actors in this film were unknown at the time. The main star can not be identified. The only female in the film is featured to give feminine interest although she barely even appears in the film.,[object Object],The films credentials clearly indicated by the text box naming the team that made shallow grave. Again this emphasises this has the makings of a humorous British cult film.,[object Object],Looks like a small British independent film, the costumes imply this maybe a social realism film, a type of film Britain does best; non of the characters are a conventional hero or heroine.,[object Object],Setting of film absent and no hint of drug abuse as the main theme.,[object Object],A large title which attracts the,[object Object], eye. It is enigmatic because there is nothing in the poster related to trains or train spotting.,[object Object],Rule of thirds is present with the main text box taking the lower third and the characters take two thirds.,[object Object],Colours are generally muted but the bright orange stands out; the overall tone is very ambiguous.,[object Object]
Your Title (analysis of title choice, font choice, size, position and colour).,[object Object],The title of our film ‘Family Tree’ came as an obvious choice as it included our motif, also these words conjure up many pre conceptions people already have about the phrase. It ties in with how much of the film is about the development and destruction of a family also a tree has a cycle of season and changes and develops like our main characters life. ,[object Object],The font on posters A & B are both old fashioned writing style along with a gold coloured font to give the more romantic feel of the film, whereas poster C goes for a more simplistic European style and a much darker purple colour to so as the title stands out against the light background. Posters A and C both choose to position their larger text in the centre at the top, a very typical place for film titles to be placed so as the are easy to identify. Whereas poster B places his smaller title to the left so as to not conceal any of the main characters face and add more mystery. ,[object Object],A,[object Object],B,[object Object],C,[object Object]
‘Memories will keep you alive...,[object Object], won’t they?’,[object Object],This is the shorter tag line used on poster C as it’s a little more to the point. The rhetorical question entices the audience and gives a hint that the movie is based on memories and possibly that there is death in the film. ,[object Object],Once love has been destroyed, memories will keep you alive...,[object Object], won’t they?,[object Object],The long tag line suggests romance and hints at teenage involvement as this is often a theme for younger characters who are at ever changing paths in their lives.,[object Object],Tag lines often try to sum up a film in as little words as possible without giving too much away I feel our tag line does this successfully.,[object Object]
A blurb, or personal and studio details are only really present on poster C, they add a compositional function giving the design a baseline but they give the film additional credits such as the name of the writer etc. It is kept very small as a great deal of text can become confusing and is irrelevant to the main function of a poster to attract its audience. Posters A and B decided against adding a blurb as they are only teaser posters and this information was unnecessary at this stage of marketing. ,[object Object]
Poster A’s image is just of the tree set against an eerie sky, this is simple but very effective. The bare tree along with the dark ground gives a morbid and sinister edge to the poster.,[object Object],Poster B also contains the image of our motif, the tree, but it is set to the side and not the main focus of the poster as the star of the film features here. You can tell that he is in a car whilst talking on the phone and this suggests that something is not right or that some how this action may cause a problem in the film. You can also just about make out a house so this poster contains all three locations for our film giving more away than the other two.,[object Object],Poster C possibly adds the most human interest as there are the two main characters male and female both who have a direct mode of address, although their faces are slightly faint to add a ghostly look. Romance is also suggested by the crossing of the faces but the sinister look in the main male characters eyes suggests that the film may have a negative event in contrast the slight smile on the females characters face. Also the male character is slightly more bold and stands out more than the female showing that he is the star of the film. You can also detect the faint tree behind their faces helping show the idea of a life cycle and the main location of the story.,[object Object],B,[object Object],C,[object Object],A,[object Object]
The colour scheme on poster A is a light purple this is to add a more romantic feel. Along with the black to give it a more serious and mature edge it also shows that the film has a more sinister side without giving too much away. ,[object Object], The colour scheme on poster B is much less obvious but once again it ties in with poster A with the gold. It has very naturalistic colours and this faded effect as that character may be placed in this transit between life and death like the leaves on the tree.,[object Object], Poster C has very neutral colours mainly blue and white to give a more sophisticated and mature style. The blue helps show the ghostly feeling the film has, this simple style makes the posters content and information stand out more and are easily readable, hopefully it will also make it more eye catching to the audience.,[object Object]
