name in a bold eye-catching font, which is sure to attract
consumers. This is because Katy Perry is a big name in the
music industry. This cd cover is a very feminine one. I can
deduct this due to the colours, almost all of which are
different shades of red. Red is a colour linked to passion and
love, 2 thinks that the music and Katy Perry as a person
herself evokes. This use of red extends to the pink cloud that
she lies on. Pink is a very feminine colour, which is reflected
throughout this cover. This is none more apparent than the
fact that the centre point of the cover is Katy Perry lying
naked on a cloud. This reflects her femininity, as well as
adhering to the male gauze theory, in which products become
more popular through the sexualisation of women. Overall,
from the various hues of red and pink and by putting Katy
Perry naked on the front, this is a very feminine album cover.

• In a stark contrast to Katy Perry’s ‘teenage dream’, ACDC’s highway
to hell can be seen as a very masculine album. This is because of
the colour palette. Whereas Katy Perry’s cover had various reds
and pinks, ACDC’s has whites, blacks and blues. This can be seen as
masculine, as these are dark cool colours, which is very opposite to
warm pinks and rich reds. The colour scheme can also be viewed
as masculine as blue is a colour that primarily appeals to boys.
Another way this cd cover is aimed at males is by having one of the
singers with horns and a devil tail. This represents rebellion and
anarchy, and is supposed to be similar to the devil. Being rebellious
is an attitude that appeals a great deal more to boys than girls, and
is a very male representation. All of these aspects combined make
me believe that males are the primary audience for this album
cover, and it portrays the band as very masculine and in command.
Whereas Katy Perry’s album almost objectifies women, due to its
use of a naked Katy Perry positioned in an alluring pose of the
front.
