Those who have been closely following our background might have held a 2008 Bionicon
catalogue in their hands. What has changed and how have we changed? The evolution
can be seen in our daily work and development. We have intensively asked ourselves why
one should buy a Bionicon.

unmöglich. Die persönlichen Bedürfnisse eines jeden Bikers beanspruchen ein zu großes
Spektrum um dem gerecht zu werden. Das Edison Konzept hat es aber geschafft dieses
Problem fast vollständig ins Abseits zu drängen.

The idea of satisfying all mountainbikers with just one bike was the dream which led to
the invention of the Bionicon system. The Edison is the basis for this concept.
Making a universal frame for every biker is probably impossible. The personal needs of
each and every rider simply occupy too great a spectrum. However, creating the Edison
concept has almost banished the problem to the wilderness.

andere Anforderungen an uns Entwickler als bei der Entwicklung von Backcountry Mountain-
bikes à la Bionicon.
Steifigkeit, Gewicht, sowie Sitzposition sind die entscheidenden Kriterien, um in einem Ma-
rathon oder einem Bergzeitfahren gut abzuschneiden. Nach 3-jähriger Studie und intensivem
28 Dialog mit unseren Teamfahrern, haben wir uns für ein kompromissloses
Hardtail entschieden. Dabei setzen wir auf Scandium als Rahmenmaterial, um auch bei einem
Sturz mit Rahmenbeschädigung das Rennen noch sicher beenden zu können. Die überwie-
genden Rennstrecken sind in ihrer Geländeeigenschaft auf Hardtails wie das Frequency HT
ausgerichtet. Auf Rennen wie Transalp, Transrockys usw. setzen unsere Fahrer auf das Golden
Willow 0 light, ebenfalls aus Scandium gefertigt.
Race bikes are made for winning alone and present our development team with a completely
different challenge than creating comfort orientated, full suspension bikes. Rigidity, weight and
riding position are the crucial factors in winning a marathon or mountain time trial. Following
three years of intensive study and dialogue with our team riders we choose an uncompromising
hardtail as the perfect race weapon. The ideal frame material for such a machine is Scandium
– even following a crash resulting in frame damage, the rider can safely finish the race. Most
off-road race courses are hardtail orientated. For races like the Transalp, TransRockies etc our
team riders will choose the Scandium framed Golden Willow SC.

Der Andere möchte einen Packesel, der viel Gewicht verträgt – in Bayern auch
gerne mal ein Kasten Bier (Urban Cargo).
Aber nicht nur die Menschen in urbanen Gegenden weisen unterschiedliche
Fortbewegungsmuster auf, sondern auch die Städte selbst sind in ihrer Topogra-
phie und Infrastruktur völlig verschieden und meist von Autos verstopft, was für
uns den Nährboden für viele neue Ideen in Sachen Metro-Cycling bereitet.

Our mountainbikes are designed for off-road terrain, performance machines
for enjoying nature. When commuting to work or visiting friends you won’t be
thinking about finishing a training run. More likely you just want to get from a
to b avoiding traffic jams and do so with a stylish, functional bike. We’ve been
observing city dwellers in their chosen habitat and have identified two breeds of
cyclist. One wants to get to work, college or school as quickly as possible with
the least amount of effort and sweat produced. The other needs a cargo mule to
transport heavy stuff (in Bavaria this means crates of beer).
We developed the Urban Road and Urban Cargo to meet these needs. But it’s not
just city people who are different from one another; each city itself has a unique
topography and infrastructure. The common enominator is the queue of cars
and it is this which feeds us with new ideas for metro cycling.
