GOAL

At the end of this three-month course,
participants will have enhanced their chances
of passing the ECCE exam by becoming
familiar with the format and expectations of
each section of the exam and by learning
effective test-taking strategies.


What is the ECCE exam?

• The Examination for the Certificate of Competency
in English (ECCE) is a standardized high-
intermediate level English as a foreign language
(EFL) examination, designed by the English
Language Institute of the University of Michigan


Who is it for?
• The ECCE emphasizes communicative use of
English rather than a formalistic knowledge
of English, and it is aimed at students who
are able to function and perform
communicative transactions in all four skill
areas of the language (speaking, listening,
reading, writing). The language tested is
'general', rather than 'academic'.


What is it for?
You might use an ECCE certificate:
• As evidence of high-intermediate
competence in English for personal, public,
educational, and occupational purposes
• To provide evidence of your level of English
to employers
• When applying for a job or a promotion, or
when conducting business with companies
worldwide.

What is the format of the ECCE?

How is the exam scored?
• The minimum set of scores you need to get in order to pass the ECCE
exam is three "Low pass" scores and one "Border Fail". Look at the chart
to know about the scoring system:
