Can't figure out what to say for your next presentation or speech? Use the following 7 techniques to break your writer’s block 1. Dump it all out Set a timer for 20 or 30 minutes. Then start writing. Don’t stop. Can’t think of anything? Write about writer’s block. But just keep writing. 2. The web Just like in middle and high school. Start with your central idea in the middle and then start branching out to sub ideas and then to sub-sub-ideas and then to sub-sub-sub-ideas and then to…well, you get the picture. 3. Word association If you’re really stuck and can’t even put a sentence together, just start listing out every word and phrase associated with what you want to say. Eventually, something will spark and the ideas will all link together. 4. Research Read articles and white papers, watch videos, call experts. Someone, somewhere, has already thought about what you want to say. 5. Watch other presentations and speeches Youtube and Vimeo are full of great presentations and speeches. Watch them and become inspired. 6. Talk it out with someone Find someone else and just talk out what you want to say and what you are having trouble trying to figure out. Once you start talking, the ideas will start flowing. 7. Take a break Tried everything from ideas 1-6? Go take a shower, take a walk, watch a movie, or drink a beer. Just let your conscious mind rest and your sub-conscious will get to work. Still need help with your next speech or presentation? I’m a speechwriter and can help you find just the right words.
