This is a presentation held at eLiberatica 2007.

What is OSCAR?
● to help the development of open source technology by finding
alternative solutions and establishing partnerships between
the academic environment and Romanian IT industry
It is the only event of this kind in Romania, involving communities

- each of them developing during the 4 months research
activities on a chosen topic

Objectives
OSCAR wants to change the Romanian programmers mentality
(especially IT students) by promoting open source software, whose
flexibility and ease of use are important qualities
To develop
- existent apps that need improvement
- medium-level applications which cover a large area
- grid-computing
- embedded and designed for mobile
- devices applications
- security,
- ERP systems and databses
- web services
- kernel developement
Contribute at a global level to the development of these technologies,
that could turn out to be the future of programming

for 2007
- FW/VPN Manager
(FW/VPN Manager is a graphical interface, web-based, for
administering security policies associated to a combined
solution of firewall and VPN)
- Sunbird/Lightning of Mozilla project
- Apache mod_rdf
(Creation of an Apache module that can transcribe an HTTP
message flow (received and sent by the server) in RDF terms,
according to HTTP Vocabulary in RDF)

- XwikiXDB
(Creation of a XWiki model that would permit back-end level
storage of data in a XML native database system)
- WebSlides
(Creation of an application that permits making of presentation
slides meant to be viewed in a current browser or on a mobile
device and printed no matter the printer type)
- Wiki engine for Collaboa
(To enrich this application with a wiki that should permit
documentation, specification etc writing in a collaborative manner)
- Mono XNA
(DirectX will be replaced in the future as a platform with XNA)
