This document provides information about the required supplies, reading class expectations, tardy and absence policies, and grading policy for Briscoe Middle School. It outlines that students must bring a planner, binder, pencil pouch, notebook paper and highlighters to all classes, as well as a composition book and folder for reading class. It also details SSR time, reading responses, and opportunities to check out books from the library through reading class.

3. Each student will have the opportunity to visit the library
through the reading class and all students are expected
to check out a book of their choice.
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the first 15 minutes
of class will be set-aside for SSR. At this time, everyone
in the classroom will be required to read silently.
Periodically, students will also be required to complete a
reading response activity that will encourage them to
think about and evaluate what they have been reading.

6. The NISD Reading Department grading policy is as follows:
• 40% Formative Assessments
Benchmarks
Homework
Assignments that assess progress
• 60% Summative Assessments
Tests
Major papers or projects
Assignments that assess mastery
District Benchmark Assessments are given twice during the school year
7. Students will be given a minimum of 2 days for
every day absent to complete make-up
assignments.
This holds true for both excused and
unexcused absences.
8. Formative assessments can be turned
in/corrected within a reasonable time
frame for a maximum grade of 75%
Summative assessments can be turned
in/corrected for full credit
9. Lockers - will be issued on Wed., Aug. 29th.
Supplies can be brought in on that day!
