1. At the end of his third missionary journey, Paul was at Corinth, when he wrote this letter to Rome. October 10, 2010
2. Romans 1 1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the Gospel of God, Servant - doulas - slave -- either voluntary or involuntary. Paul loved to see himself as a willing slave to the Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus had called Paul to be His ambassador in this world, And given him miraculous powers to back up his message. That's what it means to be an apostle .
3. "Separated unto the Gospel (good news) of God" Paul was set aside by the Lord to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ . He preached it in Power , because he was anointed by God's Holy Spirit to preach.
4. 1 Corinthians 2 12-13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth ; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. That's the only way to understand and teach the Word of God. We must first be taught by the Holy Spirit.
5. 1-3 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the Gospel of God , (Which He had promised afore by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,) concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, Which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; Jesus Christ, our Lord is the Good News. He is Lord -- God, Supreme He is man -- made (as a man) of the seed of David.
6. 4 And declared to be the Son of God with Power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resur-rection from the dead: Some say Jesus was a good prophet or teacher , and that might be enough , Except that, when He died, He didn't stay dead . Jesus is truly the Son of God.
7. 5 By Whom (Jesus Christ) we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations (Gentiles) , for His Name: 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: Paul's calling was primarily to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles , Of which the Romans were included. Paul was called to be an apostle to them; They were called to be saints .
8. 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Notice: Paul didn't write to the church in Rome, but to all who were beloved of God , Called to be saints (consecrated to God). There wasn't a single church in Rome. There were many churches , in the homes of Christians.
9. Paul had not yet been to Rome, and no other apostle had been to Rome at this time. How did the churches get established in Rome? On the Day of Pentecost the city of full of people from many places, including Rome . (Acts 2:10) Thousands were saved that day, and took the Good News home with them.
10. Not trained in Bible Not trained in soul-winning Knew little of Jesus Yet they established churches , saw people saved , and continued in ministry . Anybody who knows Jesus can introduce other people to Him.
11. 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. Faith made the difference! When these people accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, they put all their confidence in Him. He changed their hearts, minds, and lives.
12. They went home and told people about it. They told people what they knew . They had heard the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ. They felt and saw the change in themselves. They were excited about it, and told everyone about it. They began meeting in their homes to worship, Invited the neighbors , And churches grew . Ancient Rome
13. If we are ever going to advance the Kingdom of God in this world, this is how we will do it . First, we will have to let God change us, as He wants to change us.
14. When we let God have His Way with us, the changes will be evident; Then we tell people about it: God has made such a difference -- Where once I was sad, I am filled with joy. Where once I was angry, or worried, or frustrated, I am filled with peace.
15. Where once I felt unloved and unwanted, I am now God's beloved , chosen of Him. I am in God's family . Where once I was in bondage to sin I am set free and my life is restored whole.
16. John 3 16-17 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved . We do not have a message of condemnation; We have a message of salvation and deliverance .
17. 2 Timothy 1 7-9 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear (timidity) ; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the Power of God; Who hath saved us , and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His Own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
18. Our timidity may send people to hell. Colossians 4 (TLB) 3-6 Don’t forget to pray for us too, that God will give us many chances to preach the Good News of Christ for which I am here in jail. Pray that I will be bold enough to tell it freely and fully and make it plain, as, of course, I should. Make the most of your chances to tell others the Good News. Be wise in all your contacts with them. 6 Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible , for then you will have the right answer for everyone.
