23. ‘BEST TIME TO PLANT A TREE IS 20 YEARS AGO, SECOND
BEST TIME IS NOW’ – AFRICAN PROVERB
Notas do Editor
Our strategy is influenced by different minds across the globe.
We use global thinking, and local insights and expertise to make sustainability relevant for our country.
• Unilever is really well placed to keep on growing
• We already produce many of the world’s best-known and most-trusted brands
• Our branded products are sold in more than 180 countries and are used by two billion consumers every day of the year
• World wide compete in four product categories: personal care, home care, food, refreshment, and are among the global leaders in each
In Africa, this is what is keeping our Unilever employees awake at night.
This our vision and what we work towards every day. This is closely linked with Lord Lever’s original vision for his company, over 100 years ago.

Unilever has always had a strong interest in providing an environment, a workplace full of energy and vitality..
Caring for our employees is part of Unilever’s culture. Employee health is not only a necessity from a more humanitarian perspective but there is indeed hard scientific evidence that healthier people perform better and are more engaged with their job. So there are business benefits too. Fit leaders build sustainable businesses
On employee’s health we focus on 3 areas, :
Exercise
Nutrition
Stress/ Mental resilience
What it means in tangible terms is : our canteen’s serving nutritious food, having fitness instructors train our employees, providing professional health check and services to employees.
In China we have a women’s network, where women employees bring up issues and provide advise/ support on situations faced by women.
The interiors of our offices are designed to create an informal and collaborative atmosphere, which can support different way’s of working, whether someone wants to spend time in private thinking or wants to interact productively in large groups with members from across the globe. Everything is possible.
