I. Beginninga. Hook/attention grabber: Start off with a slide of a non-compliant patient’s mouth. Tell the story of the patient, how she started with a fear of dentist, low to no self-esteem and she was extremely unfriendly. The short anecdote will also explain her health situation as well.
b. The Big Idea (pages 78-79): You need to visit your dentist regularly for routine cleaning and check ups to prevent extensive dental treatment and overall health problems.
d. Why should your audience listen to you? Explain your ethos (credibility). Although I have only worked with a dental practice for a few years my own knowledge of this situation has increased greatly. Not only have I educated myself but I practice what I preach and it’s amazing how much better I feel after I have had my routine cleaning and check up. The Dentist that I work for is an educator as well, he speaks at conferences and has written books and blogs about dental health and your overall health.
c. What’s in it for your audience? Explain why your topic is important or worth discussing. This topic is worth discussing with the audience because everyone needs to be educated on the direct link your oral health has with your overall health. Completing your routine cleanings every 6 month could make a world of difference in your self esteem.
Call to Adventure (pages 38-39) Here I will ask the audience to raise their hands if they have been to the dentist within the past year. Congratulate those compliant patients and stress to the others the importance of regular visits to a dentist. Not only stress the importance but also bring to their attention that they are not alone. There are so many people that do not visit the dentist regularly
1. Give a dentist a chance to help you. 2. Your mouth is the gateway to your body. 3. Educate the audience on the importance of oral health and overall health.
Supporting Point OneFactual or emotional evidence:There are over one million people who do not go to the dentist for more than one reason, they will live in pain and sometimes die from their oral complications. If there was a chance given they could possibly live with out pain. Your mouth is the gateway to your body.
Supporting Point TwoFactual or emotional evidenceAlthough some people do not want to visit the dentist the outcome can be so rewarding. I have visited with many patients who do not like their smile because of one simple tooth that needs to be fixed to a full mouth restoration. When that patient leaves they are so happy that they have completed their treatment they have tears in their eyes because they are elated with the outcome.
Supporting Point ThreeFactual or emotional evidenceFor my third point I will touch on what exactly happens during your routine visits at the dentist and what the patients can do at home to prevent bad dental visits.
Callto Action (pages 42-43) At this point I will ask the audience to visit their dentist, if they don’t have one to find one and if they need any help they are more than welcome to come visit us in Houston. I will also explain that if no insurance is the reason they are not visiting their dentist I will give them a breakdown of charges for an initial visit and other avenues to pay for their visits.
1. Give a dentist a chance to help you. 2. Your mouth is a gateway to your body. 3. Educate the audience on the importance of oral health and overall health.
Restate big idea •Your oral health could be the death of you. Visit your dentist to enhance your well being.
