CYC Staff Directory

  As of February 2013
Gina Roberts – Room 121
Gina joined the staff in August of 2011. She has an Associate Degree in
Early Childhood Education and has enjoyed working in the field for the
past 17 years.
In her free time she also enjoys salsa dancing and going to karaoke with
friends.
Chasidy Starlin – Room 121
Chasidy received her Associate of Science degree from Ivy Tech in 2006. She has
over twelve years of experience working with children. She loves teaching children
new things and enjoys hearing all the funny things children say every day.
Chasidy was born and raised in Indianapolis. She married her husband, Sam, in
2006 in Nassau Bahamas. They have one daughter, Paityn. They also have a cat
named Miss Kitty. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, especially in the
Fall season. They also enjoy watching movies and the Colts.
Chasidy looks forward to being a special part of the children's lives. She hopes to
return to school in the future to receive her degree in Elementary Education.
Sashay Render – Room 121
Sashay joined CYC in December 2012. Prior to joining us she worked for four years
with children in a ministry setting.

Sashay lives in Indianapolis and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She
enjoys bowling and reading in her spare time.

Sashay looks forward to completing her Associates degree in Early Childhood
Education and continuing to work with children.
Laura Prange – Room 131
Laura Prange started working at the center in October of 2010. She has
taken Early Childhood Education classes at Ivy Tech. She has been the
manager and lead teacher in a licensed in home center since 2001. She
enjoys watching children grow and develop. She has a dog named Sadie
and enjoys playing the piano.
Janine Huff (pictured on the right) – Room 131
Janine has been with the CYC since September of 2010. She is majoring
in Pre-Occupational Therapy (Exercise Science).

She enjoys country music and her favorite color is orange.
Emily Mayer – Room 131
Emily Mayer started working at the center in November of 2010. She is
currently finishing up her degree in Psychology. She worked at a daycare
center in Lafayette before coming here to Indianapolis and starting at JC
Penny Portrait Studios taking pictures of families and young children. She
loves being with the children and helping them grow. She just recently
got married and enjoys photography.
Elaine Garard-McCracken – Room 133
Elaine joined the Center for Young Children in 1987 after receiving her AA in Early Childhood
Development. She continued her education and received her BS in Kindergarten/Primary
Education with a nursery school endorsement. She is a long standing member of the
National Association for the Education of Young Children. Elaine worked with preschoolers
until moving into the new building when she changed to the younger Weeschoolers.

Elaine has seven grandchildren with whom she shares silly times. Her husband, Phil, is
retired and keeps busy with many projects around the house that Elaine helps to plan. Her
gardens keep her busy during the warm weather. She views her flowers like her children.
They need care and nuturing as they will bloom in their own time.
Karen Guess – Room 133
Karen joined CYC in December 2012. She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College
and holds an Indiana State Teacher's License in Early Childhood Education with a
kindergarten endorsement and a concentration in special needs education. She has also
completed some graduate coursework at Indiana Wesleyan University. Her career as an
educator has spanned a variety of settings in both public and independent schools. She was
a preschool teacher working with two to four year olds at Valley Mills Preschool, taught
kindergarteners and preschoolers in Decatur Township Schools and created a pre-
kindergarten program for St. Richard's Episcopal School.

Karen lives in Plainfield with her husband, and is near her daughter and two grandchildren.
She enjoys the fact that each day is a new adventure for her young students. Away from
school, she enjoy running, hiking, travel and writing books for young children.
Lori Baumgarten – Room 134
Lori joined CYC in 2010. She currently lives in Historic Irvington with her sons Emmett
and Duncan. She has been working with infants and preschoolers for over 14 years.
Some of her many hobbies include belly
dancing, sewing, embroidery, cooking, baking, drawing, painting and jewelry making.
Lori is a breast cancer survivor and spends time helping the newly diagnosed as well
as being an advocate for the cause. She enjoys various kinds of music and attending
concerts. She enjoys spending time outdoors and especially enjoys days that remind
her of an Edward Hopper or Maxfield Parish painting.
Lori is a parent who prides herself on trying to raise her sons well, so she works hard
to give the parents peace of mind when they entrust their children with her.
Annette Nowlin – Room 134
Annette joined the CYC staff in 2011. She resides on the northwest side
of Indianapolis with her two children Aysia and Aleia, and their dog
Puddles. She began working with children about 1 years ago in the
kindergarten room of Fort Harrison and has been enjoying working with
them ever since.
She enjoys traveling, reading, shopping, listening to music and collecting
teddy bear figurines. Her goal is to find that perfect balance between
work and family so she could spend more time with her children. When
she has time in her busy schedule she truly enjoys a good inspirational
book and a glass of sweet tea.
Samantha Gillespie – Room 134
Sam has been working in child care since her senior year of high school in
2007. She is a senior now at IUPUI and is studying psychology. After she
graduates in December 2012, she plans on staying in school for nursing.
In her (very little) spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, bicycling,
spending time with family and friends, and playing with her two cats,
Tigger and George.

For the last 2 ½ years she has most enjoyed watching the children of the
CYC develop, grow, and learn while seeing the theories she has learned in
school applied in a practical setting.
Sabrina Haughn – Room 136
Sabrina has been with the center since October of 2010. As the aunt to 11 nieces
and nephews, and the daughter of a teacher, Sabrina has many years of experience
working with young children in both a social and educational setting. She has worked
for Wee Wonders Childcare (a home-based center) and has completed several classes
in Elementary Education at IU Bloomington. She most recently comes to CYC from
the banking industry and is fulfilling her passion for inspiring young minds as a
volunteer with Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis. She enjoys collecting children’s
books, movies and popcorn, attempting new recipes and spending time with friends
and family.
Michelle Hotseller – Room 136
Michelle joined the center in 2011. She currently lives on the Eastside of
Indianapolis with her cat, Stinky. Before joining CYC she worked at Kindercare for
six years.

In her free time she likes to collect dolphins, read and watch NASCAR. She also
enjoys camping, hiking, and dinner with friends.

One of Michelle's goals is to finish her Bachelor degree in Early Childhood
Education.
Kim Taylor – Room 136
Kim joined CYC in January 2013. She has worked with infants for the past three years.

Kim is the type of person who always sees humor in life. She enjoys animals, going to
the movies, and enjoying family time.

She would like to go back to college and help children with special needs.
Janet Rawson – Room 141
Janet received her BS in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education
from Indiana University and joined the Center for Young Children in 2006.
Before coming to CYC, she taught for Head Start in Indianapolis, as well
as preschool and first grade in Washington, Massachusetts and Kentucky.

Janet is married and has 3 children and a dog named Kody. Janet was
excited to welcome her first grandchild, Caden, in 2010.
Danielle Williams – Room 141
For the past five years, Danielle has worked with all age groups at the Center
for Young Children as an Assistant Teacher. She is currently pursuing her
degree at IUPUI and says that the love of children and their development has
kept her in the field of childcare for fifteen years!

Danielle is a wife and the mother of two wonderful boys. Her hobbies are
reading, spending time with her family, shopping, staying healthy and
exercising.
Megan Davis – Room 143
Megan joined CYC in January 2012 after spending the past two years as a lead
teacher in a preschool. Prior to the preschool she spent three years as a Spanish
teacher in an elementary school.
Megan lives in Indianapolis with her husband Chris and her two children Dominic and
Rowen. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, bowling, taking
pictures, and scrapbooking. She also enjoys foods, especially cheeses, scary
movies, and meeting new people.
Megan's goals are to be a great parent and to make a difference in the lives of the
children that she teaches.
Carolyn Kratowicz – Room 143
Carolyn joined CYC in July of 2012. She has been working around children since she was
12 years old. She is originally from Chicago but now lives in Indianapolis with her two
daughters, two cats, two birds and her fish.
In her free time she enjoys gardening, and crafting items such as cameos, cards and
magnets on Facebook. One of Carolyn's goals is to complete her degree in nursing.
She believes every child has his own unique way of learning and looking at the world
around them. They also have the ability to teach. In working with children she has
learned how to enjoy each moment and she believes this is helping her to be a better
mother.
Alyssa Del Toro – Room 143
Alyssa joined CYC in January of 2013. She is currently a student at IUPUI and hopes to
become a registered nurse.

Alyssa spends her free time with her three children. She also enjoys riding bikes,
making crafts and scrapbooking.

Alyssa really enjoys working with all the students in the classroom and feels proud to
be part of the CYC.
Jennifer Bohannon – Room 144
Jennifer joined CYC in May of 2012. She recently worked at Jeremiah Gray Edison
Elementary as an ISTEP Interventionist. She has also taught first grade at a charter
school and preschool at the Goddard School in Avon.
Jennifer lives in Fountaintown with her husband Ryan and their two miniature
Dachshunds, Shorts and Gretchen. In her free time she enjoys walking her
dogs, reading, and having bonfires at their house in the country. She also enjoys
visiting the zoo and going to various restaurants.
Jennifer's goals include being the best teacher possible and to start a family.
Karen Crawford – Room 144
Karen has worked in the Early Childhood field for a number of years. She
has worked at the CYC since 2004 as an assistant teacher. She recently
completed her CDA and likes to attend Indiana Early Childhood
Conferences to learn fresh ideas & activities for the children.

She is the mother of three wonderful children and her mission is to help
educate, love and provide for all the children who are in her care.
Laney Blaine – Room 146
Laney joined CYC in December of 2011. She has spent the past 10 years using her
Elementary Education degree by working in the education field with children in different
capacities. Some of her experiences have included being a substitute teacher, working in
the education department of the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, and working at the YMCA in
summer camp and before and after care. She has also worked in preschool for over 5
years and has taught two's, preschool, and kindergarten.
Laney currently lives on the South East side of Indy, in the Franklin Township area, with
her husband Terry and her daughter Mackenzie. She enjoys spending time with her
family and friends and her beagle named Twinkie and multiple kitties.
In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking and baking, decorating cakes, trying new
restaurants, photography, visiting zoos and museums.
In the future Laney hopes to continue learning and growing in the field of education, and
eventually pursue a master degree. She is also interested in taking classes to become
certified in SCUBA.
Alexis Ferrell – Room 146
Alexis joined CYC in May of 2012. Prior to joining us she worked at
Monkey Joe's, the Hilltop Child Care Center and La Esqulita. She also
completed an internship at Disney World.
Alexis lives on the eastside of Indianapolis with her husband Casey. In her
free time she enjoys singing, dancing, and playing the violin. She also
enjoys family time, watching movies and writing.
Alexis has the goal of one day opening a center for teenage mothers.
Vikki Tucher – Room 151
Vikki received her degree from IUPUI in Elementary Education in 1995 and
completed her Master's degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Early
Childhood. She began working for the Center for Young Children in 2000 and
prior to joining the CYC staff was a Kindergarten teacher at another school for
four years.

Vikki's hobbies include reading, listening to audio books, gardening and cross
stitching. She has been married since 1998 and has two step daughters.
Shaila Melanta – Room 151
Shaila received her B.S. in Chemistry and Zoology from Bombay University in 1984.
She has earned her B.G.S. degree from Indiana University with focuses in Biology and
Early Childhood Education. She also received her Human Resource Management from
Purdue in 2009. She joined CYC in 2006 and before coming to CYC she taught as an
assistant teacher for Washington Township Elementary school for four years. Prior to
that she was a professional volunteer for two years in Carmel Clay schools.
Shaila grew up in Bombay and moved to the United States in 1999. She is the mother
of two wonderful children and her hobbies include drawing, painting, cooking and
gardening.
Linda Orr – Room 153
Linda graduated from IUPUI with a BS in Elementary Education and
joined the Center for Young Children in 2006. Prior to joining CYC, Linda
worked with children at Little People Prep #1, MSD Warren Township and
North Central Childcare.

Linda is married and has two daughters and one cat. Her hobbies include
spending time with her children, cooking, scrap booking and reading.
Brionna Morris – Room 153

Brionna joined CYC in 2012. She has a diverse background of working with children,
including five months at another child care facility. She is a co-writer/co-editor of Asante
Children's Theatre. She also created a mentor program for at-risk youth. She has put her
studying of multiple languages to use by working with teaching African refuges English.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two younger brothers, and her three
cats, Mooney, Pepper and Daisy. She also enjoys writing, volunteering, amusement
parks, Zumba, Water aerobics and hip hop ab classes.
Brionna hopes to complete her degree in Occupational Therapy with specialties in
Pediatrics and Neurology and use these degrees by moving to Africa.
Betty Holmes – Room 153
Betty joined in 2011. She and her husband, Robert, moved to Greenwood about four
years ago from Michigan. While she was in Michigan, Betty operated a licensed child
care center for eleven years and was also was involved in foster care.
Betty is the proud mom of five children; Lori, Andy, Cheri, Crystal and Stacy. She also
has seven grandchildren, and a cat named Princess. Besides spending time with her
family Betty enjoys sewing, camping, cooking, traveling and four-wheeling in the
mountains.
One of Betty's long term goals is to retire and move to a warmer climate with her
husband.
Beth Steward – Room 154
Beth graduated from IUPUI with a BS in Elementary Education and
Concentration in Special Education. She worked at the Center for Young
Children for several years as a classroom assistant before becoming a
Lead Teacher. She has also worked at Little Bear Daycare and Kid's Corner
Daycare as well.

Her hobbies include reading, crafts, scrap booking and music including
singing and playing the piano.
Resa Underwood – Room 154
Resa been working with the Center for Young Chidren since 2003. She
began as a Classroom Assistant and is now an Assistant Teacher. She is
currently enrolled in the CDA course and hopes to receive her Child Care
Credential.

Some of her hobbies include reading, drawing, painting and doing crafts.
Jennifer Warren – Room 156
Jennifer joined the Center in 2011.
Jennifer joined the staff of CYC in November of 2011. Prior to joining us
she taught preschool for 6 years and was a paraprofessional with the
Speedway School system for 9 years.
In her free time she enjoys cake decorating, baking, scrapbooking, and
reading. She currently resides in Speedway with her husband Barry and
her two children Adam and Maggie.
Jennifer has two simple goals. She wants to be the best parent possible
and be a great teacher to the children she works with daily.
Norene Robinson – Room 156
Prior to joining the Center in 2011 she worked 4 years as a kindergarten
aide and 7 years at Wayne Township Library.
Norene is the proud mother of three children, Mikella, Kyle and Jevon.
She currently lives on the west side of Indianapolis. In her free time she
enjoys running, rowing, challenge courses, biking, crafts and cooking.
Norene believes in living life to the fullest and loves new experiences.
One upcoming goal for herself is to finish her degree.
Kim Garnett – Front desk/Kitchen
Kim Garnett has been a valued member of the Center as the Kitchen
Manager since 2001. Since her employment, she has been awarded a
certificate by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration for
successful completion of the Food Bourne Illness Prevention Program.
In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys reading, listening to Gospel music, and
spending time with her two children and grandson.
Ann Lekse – Front desk/Business office
Ann was born and raised in Northern Indiana and attended Purdue
University. She has been with the Finance and Administration office of
the University since 2004.

A long-time Speedway resident, Ann is divorced and has one grown
daughter, Corey and a Siamese cat, Stella. She enjoys movies, golf,
shopping and time with friends and family.
Barb Howe – Business Manager
Barb came to IUPUI after nearly ten years of service in Central Indiana not for profits. During
this time she was involved in the administration of children's programs, budgeting, human
resources and fundraising.
Barb was raised in Madison, Indiana, and currently lives with her husband Michael and their
twin sons Mike and Matt on the Southside of Indianapolis. In her free time she enjoys camping,
hiking, reading, golfing, and gardening. She also enjoys spending time with her dog Max, a Lab-
Shepherd mix.
Barb graduated from University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor degree in Business and minors
in Health and Safety and Early Childhood Development. She received her Master Degree in
Management and a certificate in Human Resources from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Linda Bohannon – Assistant Director
Linda has been involved in the Early Childhood Education field for the past
thirty years teaching preschoolers and administering early childhood
programs. She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Home
Economics and a Nursery School Teaching major. She also received her
Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education degree from Central
Washington University.

Linda has a variety of interests including playing the piano and organ, sewing
for church humanitarian projects, stitchery, traveling, and stock car racing. Her
husband is retired and she has a son and a grandson.
Dave Sandrick – Director
"Mr. Dave" began his career in Early Childhood Education in July of 2003 as one of the lead
teachers in the infant room at Campus View Child Care Center on the campus of Indiana
University in Bloomington. Prior to this initial early childhood experience, Dave spent several
years in the field of Elementary Education both as a full-time classroom teacher and a
substitute teacher. He has earned both a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in History
and Philosophy of Education from IU - Bloomington. His passion for working with young
children started as an undergraduate, but after the birth of his first daughter, Kate, that passion
skyrocketed, and led him to the lead infant teacher position. After two-and-a-half years at
Campus View, Dave became the director of the Hoosier Hills Career Center's Child Care Center
where he also served as the teacher in the one-to-three-year-old classroom. He had the
wonderful opportunity to work with his second daughter, Claire, at that particular center. He
then went on to start the infant program at the Salvation Army of Monroe County before taking
a position at the University of Southern Indiana as an instructor where he worked prior to
coming to the CYC.
Student Classroom Assistants
Adria Crawford
Adria started working at the CYC after she finished high school in
September of 2010. She enjoys her time working with the children and
plans to stay for awhile.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family (her church
family as well), playing basketball, dancing, and writing poetry. Her plans
for the future include opening her own physical therapy
business/childcare center for both the employees and the patients. She
wants to travel the world as well.
Brittaney Harley
Brittaney has been with the CYC since September of 2008.   She is
majoring in Exercise Science – Pre-Occupational Therapy.

She enjoys basketball and shopping.
Brooke Scheumann
Brooke has been with the CYC since September of 2011. Her major is Nursing, and her minor is
Sociology. She is from Decatur Indiana. She has received the following honors: ALD/PES
Historian, Historian of Phi Mu, Highest Deans list at IUPUI. She is involved with Phi Mu and ALD/PES. Her
interests are: Scrapbooking, Soccer, Showchoir, Hanging out with friends and family, working with
children.

After college she wants to specialize in pediatrics or OB nursing!

She has always loved children! She enjoys entertaining and taking care of them. She has taken classes on
taking care of children. She has babysat for many families in her community and still babysits now when
needed. Working at the IUPUI Center for Young Children has made her realize how much she wants to
work with children in her future professional life. She comes home with stories from the kids all the time
and really enjoys working with them every day.
Christina Ratney
Christina has been with the CYC since January of 2010, and is a senior at
IUPUI majoring in Elementary Education. She is from Gary, Indiana.
When she isn’t at work she loves spending time with family &
friends, dancing, playing basketball, going to church, and having a good
time. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She loves to laugh
and being a blessing unto others.
Elise Darling
Elise has been at the CYC since August of 2010. She is a Social Work
major, and is currently a junior.

She enjoys basketball and is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Jessica Montalvo (pictured on the right)
Jessica is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Psychology. She plans
to become a child psychologist. She started at the CYC in Spring 2011.
She is a proud big sister of a 14-year-old brother and a 4-year-old sister.
She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and is also involved in
College Mentors for Kids.

She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and getting
involved in activities that can better her as a person.
Stephanie Murray
Stephanie has been with the CYC since August of 2008. She is a senior
at IUPUI majoring in Sociology and plans to go on to graduate school
to earn her Masters in Social Work. She is originally from Memphis,
Tennessee, and has a little brother who is 14. She enjoys singing.
Her favorite color is pink.
Bill Lowry
Bill Lowry has been working at the CYC since September 2010. He
graduated from Ben Davis High School in 2009 and is majoring in
Electrical Engineering. His hobbies include working on cars, hanging out
with friends, and sports.
Steven Kryder
Steven is 22 years old and is currently a student at IUPUI pursuing a
degree in mechanical engineering. Before coming to IUPUI, he spent
two years at Ball State University double majoring in education and
history.

He is the youngest of two children, and his sister has a son who he
looks after from time to time. He likes to play outside, especially with
his dog, Titan. His hobbies include basketball, baseball, design, and
camping.
Chelsey Axline
Chelsea has been with the CYC since October of 2011. She is from
Pendleton, Indiana. She is a freshman at IUPUI majoring in Business
Marketing. She is half Italian and loves her mom’s spaghetti. She has
one sister, Ashley.
Karley Johns (pictured on the right)
Karley is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in Social Work. She has
taken several education classes and hopes to someday be a school social
worker.

When she is not in class or at work, she enjoys spending time with
friends and family, reading, hiking, fishing, and boating in the summer.

She is from Princeton, a small town in southern Indiana which is close to
Evansville, Indiana. Her family has a farm with three horses, a mini
pony, a mini donkey, a goat, and several chickens.
Ashley McLain
Ashley is a freshman at IUPUI. She is majoring in Social Work and plan to
pursue a career in Child Protective Services. Before working at the
CYC, she worked for two years at the Shoe Carnival in Merrillville, Indiana
as a sales associate. Surrounded by many cousins and a younger
sister, she has grown to love and work with children. She enjoys her time
working at the CYC and intends to be a positive influence on the children
here.
Jasmine Singh
Jasmine has been working at the CYC since December of 2011. She is a freshman
majoring in Nursing, and will apply this summer to IUPUI’s Nursing School. It has
been her goal for a long time.

She enjoys getting involved and working with others on campus. She is currently
in the National Honor Society and is trying out for the OTEAM at IUPUI.

Jasmine enjoys spending time with friends and family. She hopes to use the
experience she is gaining working with children when she fulfills her dream of
becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Emma Richards
Emma is a sophomore at IUPUI and is studying Exercise Science/Pre Physical
Therapy. She is hoping that working at the CYC will help her learn more about
child development and apply that when she becomes a physical therapist for
children.

Emma is from South Bend, IN, and provided after school care for a young man
with Downs Syndrome for 4 years. In her free time, she enjoys playing
basketball and spending time with her twin. She has a two-year-old poodle
named Mia. She always enjoys a great Pacers or Colts game, and really likes to
get involved with the community.
Katie Ripperger (pictured in the middle)
Katie is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in
elementary education. She plans to finish school in four
years and then teach overseas She started at the CYC in
February of 2012. She is one of five brothers and sisters.
She enjoys traveling, sports, outdoors, friends, and
children.
Sarah Farmer
Sarah has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She moved to
Indianapolis recently from Anderson, Indiana, and is a pre-nursing
student. She is an EMT in her hometown. She has one older brother,
Michael.

In her free time, she enjoys working out and playing soccer.
Tori Crosby (pictured on the left)
Tori has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She is a freshman
majoring in Nursing. She has a little sister and is from Anderson, Indiana.

She enjoys running, and her favorite color is green.
Jahleia Chieves

Jahleia is twenty-years-old and a junior at IUPUI. She is a Forensics
Science major, and in her spare time she likes to sing and dance.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she came to Indiana to pursue a
college education. Her goal is to graduate with a Bachelors degree and
eventually a Masters and Doctorate if possible. Her long term goal is to
work for an accredited state crime lab and eventually have children of
her own.
Maria Huizar
Maria has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She is a freshman
at IUPUI. She is from East Chicago, Indiana. She has been helping take
care of her 5 siblings since she was four-years-old. She has had a paying
job since she was 15-years-old.

In her spare time she likes to listen to music and hang out with friends.
Her spare time is limited, however, with all of the child watching she
does.
Skye Leasure
Skye started working in childcare in 2007, babysitting for a few families on her block.
Since then, she has worked in her church’s nursery and have cared for many children.
Since coming to IUPUI this past year, she has been involved with a tutoring program at
George Washington and has also been involved with other community events.

Skye plans to have her own classroom someday. Working at the CYC has been a great
experience for learning the ins and outs of running a classroom.

In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and making art. Although she doesn’t
get to see her family much, she absolutely loves the time they have together! In the
future, she plans on always making time for the important things in life, such as her
relationships with loved ones, even when things get stressful.
Kiana Klein
Kiana is in her second semester of Freshman year at IUPUI. Her major is Elementary
Education and she plans to get a license in Special Needs education. After graduating,
I would love to continue to work at a childcare center or become an elementary
school teacher around Indianapolis. She has worked previously as a nanny and as a
camp counselor at Kamp Kaleidoscope. For fun, she likes to study films, go for long
walks around Indianapolis, and spend time with her little sister.
Kayla Rainey
Kayla is a sophomore at IUPUI and is studying Exercise Science/Pre-OT. Kayla
LOVES video games and also loves to spend time with her four younger
brothers. She also has a German Rottweiler named Rajah.

In her spare time she enjoys reading, playing the violin and spending time with
her family and friends.
Nicole Ambrogi

Nicole is a sophomore at IUPUI majoring in Elementary Education. She enjoys
spending time with my friends and family, including her dog, Frazier. She has one
brother, Dan, who will be a sophomore in high school.

She loves to be creative! She enjoys reading, writing, and dancing!
Lindsey Ford
Lindsey is a junior at IUPUI. Her major is Social Work. Lindsey was a former employee of CYC
in 2005. Her schedule has changed and has allowed her to come back. Lindsey has worked
with children of all ages. She likes building relationships with the children and helping to
make a safe environment.

Lindsey’s favorite color is blue. She loves many things: butterflies, reading, wearing heels,
poetry, and music.

Lindsey attends Purpose of Life Ministries church where she has been a member since 2007.
Sheila Jeevan
I am from Terre Haute with a B.S. in Biology and a Masters in Secondary Education. I
am currently finishing up my Masters in Public Affairs and starting a Masters in Public
Health. But really, I just like to play with kids.
Katie Hamer
Katie has been at the CYC since August of 2012. She is a nursing student at IUPUI. She
has two younger brothers and is from Valparaiso, IN. She has prior work experience
running a sports summer camp for elementary aged children. She is involved in Phi
Mu helping raise money for the children of Riley hospital. She would like to work in
pediatrics someday.

She enjoys hanging out with friends, boating, spending time with family, playing with
her dog, and playing tennis.
Mariah Moss
Mariah is a Sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in elementary education. She plans
to become an elementary teacher in a public school or daycare. She enjoys spending
time with her nieces and nephew and other family. She also loves to spend time with
her friends and have fun.
Megan Lung
Megan is majoring in social work and she plans to be a mental health and substance
abuse counselor.

She grew up in Kendallville, IN. She loves watching and participating in live theatre.
She enjoys hanging out with friends and trying new restaurants, as well as going to
Chicago Cubs baseball games with my grandpa. She has a boyfriend named
Brandon, who also goes to IUPUI. They've been together almost four years :)
Jordy Rush (pictured on the right)
Jordy is a junior and is majoring in art education. She plans on teaching levels of kids
from K-12 wherever she can but would like to work in a different state at some point.

She keeps very busy with work and school. When she does have free time, she enjoys
movies, reading, going to dinner with friends, and obviously art.
Emily Harley
Emily is a sophomore here at IUPUI.
Major: Pre-Radiography, then Medical Imaging Technology for a Bachelor's degree.
She wants to be an Ultrasound Technician specializing in Sonography.
Favorite color is blue. Favorite movies are The Lion King and The Avengers.
She loves listening to music, watching movies and game
shows, drawing, reading, photography, swimming, being outside (when it's warm of
course! (: ) animals, spending time with family, friends & her boyfriend.
Micheala Bryant
Micheala is a Psychology Major and has been with the CYC since September.

She enjoys shopping, singing (she loves all kinds of music), traveling and trying
different tasty foods!
Uloma Nwaka
My name is Uloma Nwaka. I started working at CYC in September 2012. I am currently
a double major sophomore majoring in Social Work and Physician Assistant. I have
enjoyed working with and helping kids. I plan to specialize in a social work and PA
career that deals mostly with children.

I love exercising, shopping, spending time with friends and family, watching movies,
trying new things, and being involved in helping others in the community. I love Kobe
Bryant and the L.A. Lakers.
Chelsea Geesa
Chelsea is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Elementary Education. She plans
on being either a kindergarten teacher or an elementary art teacher. She has always
loved working with kids and watching them grow.

She enjoys running, spending time with family and friends, scrapbooking, art, baking,
traveling, shopping, and soccer.
LaShata Grayson
LaShata has worked in an elementary school setting in Gary, Indiana for 4 years. She
has three brothers and two sisters. She is a sophomore at IUPUI studying Health
Service Management with a minor in Business.

LaShata enjoys singing, dancing, and drawing. She loves working with children,
especially making them smile.
Paige Billings (pictured on left)
My name is Paige Billings, I am a Sophomore at IUPUI majoring in Elementary
Education in hopes to one day become a 1st or 2nd grade teacher. I am from
Monticello, IN and am the youngest of 3 siblings, two being brothers. In my spare
time I love to watch old tv shows and spend time with friends. I also work at St.
Elizabeth Hospital.
Chelsey Budd
Chelsey is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in Psychology. She would like to
become a child life specialist when she is done with school. She started at the CYC in
October of 2012.

She enjoys playing softball and volleyball. She also likes to go shopping.
Cece Sanchez
Cece is a Freshman at Ivy Tech and is majoring in General Studies She plans to become
a nurse at Riley Hospital. She started at the CYC in October of 2012.

She enjoys listening to music and spending time with her family and friends back at
home.
Audrey Lukasheay (pictured on the right)
Audrey is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in psychology. She plans to become a
therapist. She started at the CYC in January of 2013.

She enjoys reading and baking.
Rachel Mathes
My name is Rachel Mathes and I just started at CYC in December 2012. Currently I am
a sophomore at IUPUI, studying Exercise Science Pre-OT. I have always enjoyed
working with kids and helping them learn, and plan to specialize in pediatrics during
my career.

I love exercising, spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, and
being involved in helping others whether it be at school, church, or in the community.
I am currently a part of the Golden Key Honor Society through Indiana University and
hope to become as involved on campus as I can.
Andrienne Tabor
My name is Andrienne Tabor and I just recently started working at the CYC in January
2013. I am a freshman at IUPUI and my major is Pre-med biology. I have always
enjoyed working with and helping young children, which is why I want to be a
pediatrician.
              I enjoy hanging out with friends, spending time with family, watching
movies, especially Disney movies, and being involved in SAPB (student activities
programming board) where I have met a lot of wonderfully interesting people who I
have become really good friends with.
Prensis McClain
Prensis is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Health Service Management. She
plans to become a Health Services Coordinator. She started at the CYC in January of
2013.

She enjoys volunteering at her church.
Jessica Chichester (pictured on the right)
Jessica is a junior at IUPUI and is majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in
Social Sciences. She plans to become a teacher in the Indianapolis area. She started at
the CYC in January of 2013.

Jessica is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and ESAC on campus. She enjoys coaching,
playing volleyball, and being with family and friends.
Erin Tepe
Erin Tepe joined the center in January of 2013. This is her first year at IUPUI. She is an
Elementary Education major and plans to graduate in four years. She would like to
teach first grade when she graduates. She grew up in Elkhart, Indiana where she lived
with her mom and brother.

Outside of school and work, Erin loves spending time with her family and friends. She
also loves shopping and movies. In Elkhart, she lives on the river and enjoys taking
boat rides. She also played volleyball for two years in high school and six years prior to
that. She's been babysitting for many years now and loves working with children.

  • 1. CYC Staff Directory As of February 2013
  • 2. Gina Roberts – Room 121 Gina joined the staff in August of 2011. She has an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and has enjoyed working in the field for the past 17 years. In her free time she also enjoys salsa dancing and going to karaoke with friends.
  • 3. Chasidy Starlin – Room 121 Chasidy received her Associate of Science degree from Ivy Tech in 2006. She has over twelve years of experience working with children. She loves teaching children new things and enjoys hearing all the funny things children say every day. Chasidy was born and raised in Indianapolis. She married her husband, Sam, in 2006 in Nassau Bahamas. They have one daughter, Paityn. They also have a cat named Miss Kitty. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, especially in the Fall season. They also enjoy watching movies and the Colts. Chasidy looks forward to being a special part of the children's lives. She hopes to return to school in the future to receive her degree in Elementary Education.
  • 4. Sashay Render – Room 121 Sashay joined CYC in December 2012. Prior to joining us she worked for four years with children in a ministry setting. Sashay lives in Indianapolis and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She enjoys bowling and reading in her spare time. Sashay looks forward to completing her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education and continuing to work with children.
  • 5. Laura Prange – Room 131 Laura Prange started working at the center in October of 2010. She has taken Early Childhood Education classes at Ivy Tech. She has been the manager and lead teacher in a licensed in home center since 2001. She enjoys watching children grow and develop. She has a dog named Sadie and enjoys playing the piano.
  • 6. Janine Huff (pictured on the right) – Room 131 Janine has been with the CYC since September of 2010. She is majoring in Pre-Occupational Therapy (Exercise Science). She enjoys country music and her favorite color is orange.
  • 7. Emily Mayer – Room 131 Emily Mayer started working at the center in November of 2010. She is currently finishing up her degree in Psychology. She worked at a daycare center in Lafayette before coming here to Indianapolis and starting at JC Penny Portrait Studios taking pictures of families and young children. She loves being with the children and helping them grow. She just recently got married and enjoys photography.
  • 8. Elaine Garard-McCracken – Room 133 Elaine joined the Center for Young Children in 1987 after receiving her AA in Early Childhood Development. She continued her education and received her BS in Kindergarten/Primary Education with a nursery school endorsement. She is a long standing member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Elaine worked with preschoolers until moving into the new building when she changed to the younger Weeschoolers. Elaine has seven grandchildren with whom she shares silly times. Her husband, Phil, is retired and keeps busy with many projects around the house that Elaine helps to plan. Her gardens keep her busy during the warm weather. She views her flowers like her children. They need care and nuturing as they will bloom in their own time.
  • 9. Karen Guess – Room 133 Karen joined CYC in December 2012. She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and holds an Indiana State Teacher's License in Early Childhood Education with a kindergarten endorsement and a concentration in special needs education. She has also completed some graduate coursework at Indiana Wesleyan University. Her career as an educator has spanned a variety of settings in both public and independent schools. She was a preschool teacher working with two to four year olds at Valley Mills Preschool, taught kindergarteners and preschoolers in Decatur Township Schools and created a pre- kindergarten program for St. Richard's Episcopal School. Karen lives in Plainfield with her husband, and is near her daughter and two grandchildren. She enjoys the fact that each day is a new adventure for her young students. Away from school, she enjoy running, hiking, travel and writing books for young children.
  • 10. Lori Baumgarten – Room 134 Lori joined CYC in 2010. She currently lives in Historic Irvington with her sons Emmett and Duncan. She has been working with infants and preschoolers for over 14 years. Some of her many hobbies include belly dancing, sewing, embroidery, cooking, baking, drawing, painting and jewelry making. Lori is a breast cancer survivor and spends time helping the newly diagnosed as well as being an advocate for the cause. She enjoys various kinds of music and attending concerts. She enjoys spending time outdoors and especially enjoys days that remind her of an Edward Hopper or Maxfield Parish painting. Lori is a parent who prides herself on trying to raise her sons well, so she works hard to give the parents peace of mind when they entrust their children with her.
  • 11. Annette Nowlin – Room 134 Annette joined the CYC staff in 2011. She resides on the northwest side of Indianapolis with her two children Aysia and Aleia, and their dog Puddles. She began working with children about 1 years ago in the kindergarten room of Fort Harrison and has been enjoying working with them ever since. She enjoys traveling, reading, shopping, listening to music and collecting teddy bear figurines. Her goal is to find that perfect balance between work and family so she could spend more time with her children. When she has time in her busy schedule she truly enjoys a good inspirational book and a glass of sweet tea.
  • 12. Samantha Gillespie – Room 134 Sam has been working in child care since her senior year of high school in 2007. She is a senior now at IUPUI and is studying psychology. After she graduates in December 2012, she plans on staying in school for nursing. In her (very little) spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, bicycling, spending time with family and friends, and playing with her two cats, Tigger and George. For the last 2 ½ years she has most enjoyed watching the children of the CYC develop, grow, and learn while seeing the theories she has learned in school applied in a practical setting.
  • 13. Sabrina Haughn – Room 136 Sabrina has been with the center since October of 2010. As the aunt to 11 nieces and nephews, and the daughter of a teacher, Sabrina has many years of experience working with young children in both a social and educational setting. She has worked for Wee Wonders Childcare (a home-based center) and has completed several classes in Elementary Education at IU Bloomington. She most recently comes to CYC from the banking industry and is fulfilling her passion for inspiring young minds as a volunteer with Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis. She enjoys collecting children’s books, movies and popcorn, attempting new recipes and spending time with friends and family.
  • 14. Michelle Hotseller – Room 136 Michelle joined the center in 2011. She currently lives on the Eastside of Indianapolis with her cat, Stinky. Before joining CYC she worked at Kindercare for six years. In her free time she likes to collect dolphins, read and watch NASCAR. She also enjoys camping, hiking, and dinner with friends. One of Michelle's goals is to finish her Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • 15. Kim Taylor – Room 136 Kim joined CYC in January 2013. She has worked with infants for the past three years. Kim is the type of person who always sees humor in life. She enjoys animals, going to the movies, and enjoying family time. She would like to go back to college and help children with special needs.
  • 16. Janet Rawson – Room 141 Janet received her BS in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education from Indiana University and joined the Center for Young Children in 2006. Before coming to CYC, she taught for Head Start in Indianapolis, as well as preschool and first grade in Washington, Massachusetts and Kentucky. Janet is married and has 3 children and a dog named Kody. Janet was excited to welcome her first grandchild, Caden, in 2010.
  • 17. Danielle Williams – Room 141 For the past five years, Danielle has worked with all age groups at the Center for Young Children as an Assistant Teacher. She is currently pursuing her degree at IUPUI and says that the love of children and their development has kept her in the field of childcare for fifteen years! Danielle is a wife and the mother of two wonderful boys. Her hobbies are reading, spending time with her family, shopping, staying healthy and exercising.
  • 18. Megan Davis – Room 143 Megan joined CYC in January 2012 after spending the past two years as a lead teacher in a preschool. Prior to the preschool she spent three years as a Spanish teacher in an elementary school. Megan lives in Indianapolis with her husband Chris and her two children Dominic and Rowen. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, bowling, taking pictures, and scrapbooking. She also enjoys foods, especially cheeses, scary movies, and meeting new people. Megan's goals are to be a great parent and to make a difference in the lives of the children that she teaches.
  • 19. Carolyn Kratowicz – Room 143 Carolyn joined CYC in July of 2012. She has been working around children since she was 12 years old. She is originally from Chicago but now lives in Indianapolis with her two daughters, two cats, two birds and her fish. In her free time she enjoys gardening, and crafting items such as cameos, cards and magnets on Facebook. One of Carolyn's goals is to complete her degree in nursing. She believes every child has his own unique way of learning and looking at the world around them. They also have the ability to teach. In working with children she has learned how to enjoy each moment and she believes this is helping her to be a better mother.
  • 20. Alyssa Del Toro – Room 143 Alyssa joined CYC in January of 2013. She is currently a student at IUPUI and hopes to become a registered nurse. Alyssa spends her free time with her three children. She also enjoys riding bikes, making crafts and scrapbooking. Alyssa really enjoys working with all the students in the classroom and feels proud to be part of the CYC.
  • 21. Jennifer Bohannon – Room 144 Jennifer joined CYC in May of 2012. She recently worked at Jeremiah Gray Edison Elementary as an ISTEP Interventionist. She has also taught first grade at a charter school and preschool at the Goddard School in Avon. Jennifer lives in Fountaintown with her husband Ryan and their two miniature Dachshunds, Shorts and Gretchen. In her free time she enjoys walking her dogs, reading, and having bonfires at their house in the country. She also enjoys visiting the zoo and going to various restaurants. Jennifer's goals include being the best teacher possible and to start a family.
  • 22. Karen Crawford – Room 144 Karen has worked in the Early Childhood field for a number of years. She has worked at the CYC since 2004 as an assistant teacher. She recently completed her CDA and likes to attend Indiana Early Childhood Conferences to learn fresh ideas & activities for the children. She is the mother of three wonderful children and her mission is to help educate, love and provide for all the children who are in her care.
  • 23. Laney Blaine – Room 146 Laney joined CYC in December of 2011. She has spent the past 10 years using her Elementary Education degree by working in the education field with children in different capacities. Some of her experiences have included being a substitute teacher, working in the education department of the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, and working at the YMCA in summer camp and before and after care. She has also worked in preschool for over 5 years and has taught two's, preschool, and kindergarten. Laney currently lives on the South East side of Indy, in the Franklin Township area, with her husband Terry and her daughter Mackenzie. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and her beagle named Twinkie and multiple kitties. In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking and baking, decorating cakes, trying new restaurants, photography, visiting zoos and museums. In the future Laney hopes to continue learning and growing in the field of education, and eventually pursue a master degree. She is also interested in taking classes to become certified in SCUBA.
  • 24. Alexis Ferrell – Room 146 Alexis joined CYC in May of 2012. Prior to joining us she worked at Monkey Joe's, the Hilltop Child Care Center and La Esqulita. She also completed an internship at Disney World. Alexis lives on the eastside of Indianapolis with her husband Casey. In her free time she enjoys singing, dancing, and playing the violin. She also enjoys family time, watching movies and writing. Alexis has the goal of one day opening a center for teenage mothers.
  • 25. Vikki Tucher – Room 151 Vikki received her degree from IUPUI in Elementary Education in 1995 and completed her Master's degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Early Childhood. She began working for the Center for Young Children in 2000 and prior to joining the CYC staff was a Kindergarten teacher at another school for four years. Vikki's hobbies include reading, listening to audio books, gardening and cross stitching. She has been married since 1998 and has two step daughters.
  • 26. Shaila Melanta – Room 151 Shaila received her B.S. in Chemistry and Zoology from Bombay University in 1984. She has earned her B.G.S. degree from Indiana University with focuses in Biology and Early Childhood Education. She also received her Human Resource Management from Purdue in 2009. She joined CYC in 2006 and before coming to CYC she taught as an assistant teacher for Washington Township Elementary school for four years. Prior to that she was a professional volunteer for two years in Carmel Clay schools. Shaila grew up in Bombay and moved to the United States in 1999. She is the mother of two wonderful children and her hobbies include drawing, painting, cooking and gardening.
  • 27. Linda Orr – Room 153 Linda graduated from IUPUI with a BS in Elementary Education and joined the Center for Young Children in 2006. Prior to joining CYC, Linda worked with children at Little People Prep #1, MSD Warren Township and North Central Childcare. Linda is married and has two daughters and one cat. Her hobbies include spending time with her children, cooking, scrap booking and reading.
  • 28. Brionna Morris – Room 153 Brionna joined CYC in 2012. She has a diverse background of working with children, including five months at another child care facility. She is a co-writer/co-editor of Asante Children's Theatre. She also created a mentor program for at-risk youth. She has put her studying of multiple languages to use by working with teaching African refuges English. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two younger brothers, and her three cats, Mooney, Pepper and Daisy. She also enjoys writing, volunteering, amusement parks, Zumba, Water aerobics and hip hop ab classes. Brionna hopes to complete her degree in Occupational Therapy with specialties in Pediatrics and Neurology and use these degrees by moving to Africa.
  • 29. Betty Holmes – Room 153 Betty joined in 2011. She and her husband, Robert, moved to Greenwood about four years ago from Michigan. While she was in Michigan, Betty operated a licensed child care center for eleven years and was also was involved in foster care. Betty is the proud mom of five children; Lori, Andy, Cheri, Crystal and Stacy. She also has seven grandchildren, and a cat named Princess. Besides spending time with her family Betty enjoys sewing, camping, cooking, traveling and four-wheeling in the mountains. One of Betty's long term goals is to retire and move to a warmer climate with her husband.
  • 30. Beth Steward – Room 154 Beth graduated from IUPUI with a BS in Elementary Education and Concentration in Special Education. She worked at the Center for Young Children for several years as a classroom assistant before becoming a Lead Teacher. She has also worked at Little Bear Daycare and Kid's Corner Daycare as well. Her hobbies include reading, crafts, scrap booking and music including singing and playing the piano.
  • 31. Resa Underwood – Room 154 Resa been working with the Center for Young Chidren since 2003. She began as a Classroom Assistant and is now an Assistant Teacher. She is currently enrolled in the CDA course and hopes to receive her Child Care Credential. Some of her hobbies include reading, drawing, painting and doing crafts.
  • 32. Jennifer Warren – Room 156 Jennifer joined the Center in 2011. Jennifer joined the staff of CYC in November of 2011. Prior to joining us she taught preschool for 6 years and was a paraprofessional with the Speedway School system for 9 years. In her free time she enjoys cake decorating, baking, scrapbooking, and reading. She currently resides in Speedway with her husband Barry and her two children Adam and Maggie. Jennifer has two simple goals. She wants to be the best parent possible and be a great teacher to the children she works with daily.
  • 33. Norene Robinson – Room 156 Prior to joining the Center in 2011 she worked 4 years as a kindergarten aide and 7 years at Wayne Township Library. Norene is the proud mother of three children, Mikella, Kyle and Jevon. She currently lives on the west side of Indianapolis. In her free time she enjoys running, rowing, challenge courses, biking, crafts and cooking. Norene believes in living life to the fullest and loves new experiences. One upcoming goal for herself is to finish her degree.
  • 34. Kim Garnett – Front desk/Kitchen Kim Garnett has been a valued member of the Center as the Kitchen Manager since 2001. Since her employment, she has been awarded a certificate by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration for successful completion of the Food Bourne Illness Prevention Program. In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys reading, listening to Gospel music, and spending time with her two children and grandson.
  • 35. Ann Lekse – Front desk/Business office Ann was born and raised in Northern Indiana and attended Purdue University. She has been with the Finance and Administration office of the University since 2004. A long-time Speedway resident, Ann is divorced and has one grown daughter, Corey and a Siamese cat, Stella. She enjoys movies, golf, shopping and time with friends and family.
  • 36. Barb Howe – Business Manager Barb came to IUPUI after nearly ten years of service in Central Indiana not for profits. During this time she was involved in the administration of children's programs, budgeting, human resources and fundraising. Barb was raised in Madison, Indiana, and currently lives with her husband Michael and their twin sons Mike and Matt on the Southside of Indianapolis. In her free time she enjoys camping, hiking, reading, golfing, and gardening. She also enjoys spending time with her dog Max, a Lab- Shepherd mix. Barb graduated from University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor degree in Business and minors in Health and Safety and Early Childhood Development. She received her Master Degree in Management and a certificate in Human Resources from Indiana Wesleyan University.
  • 37. Linda Bohannon – Assistant Director Linda has been involved in the Early Childhood Education field for the past thirty years teaching preschoolers and administering early childhood programs. She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Home Economics and a Nursery School Teaching major. She also received her Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education degree from Central Washington University. Linda has a variety of interests including playing the piano and organ, sewing for church humanitarian projects, stitchery, traveling, and stock car racing. Her husband is retired and she has a son and a grandson.
  • 38. Dave Sandrick – Director "Mr. Dave" began his career in Early Childhood Education in July of 2003 as one of the lead teachers in the infant room at Campus View Child Care Center on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. Prior to this initial early childhood experience, Dave spent several years in the field of Elementary Education both as a full-time classroom teacher and a substitute teacher. He has earned both a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in History and Philosophy of Education from IU - Bloomington. His passion for working with young children started as an undergraduate, but after the birth of his first daughter, Kate, that passion skyrocketed, and led him to the lead infant teacher position. After two-and-a-half years at Campus View, Dave became the director of the Hoosier Hills Career Center's Child Care Center where he also served as the teacher in the one-to-three-year-old classroom. He had the wonderful opportunity to work with his second daughter, Claire, at that particular center. He then went on to start the infant program at the Salvation Army of Monroe County before taking a position at the University of Southern Indiana as an instructor where he worked prior to coming to the CYC.
  • 40. Adria Crawford Adria started working at the CYC after she finished high school in September of 2010. She enjoys her time working with the children and plans to stay for awhile. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family (her church family as well), playing basketball, dancing, and writing poetry. Her plans for the future include opening her own physical therapy business/childcare center for both the employees and the patients. She wants to travel the world as well.
  • 41. Brittaney Harley Brittaney has been with the CYC since September of 2008. She is majoring in Exercise Science – Pre-Occupational Therapy. She enjoys basketball and shopping.
  • 42. Brooke Scheumann Brooke has been with the CYC since September of 2011. Her major is Nursing, and her minor is Sociology. She is from Decatur Indiana. She has received the following honors: ALD/PES Historian, Historian of Phi Mu, Highest Deans list at IUPUI. She is involved with Phi Mu and ALD/PES. Her interests are: Scrapbooking, Soccer, Showchoir, Hanging out with friends and family, working with children. After college she wants to specialize in pediatrics or OB nursing! She has always loved children! She enjoys entertaining and taking care of them. She has taken classes on taking care of children. She has babysat for many families in her community and still babysits now when needed. Working at the IUPUI Center for Young Children has made her realize how much she wants to work with children in her future professional life. She comes home with stories from the kids all the time and really enjoys working with them every day.
  • 43. Christina Ratney Christina has been with the CYC since January of 2010, and is a senior at IUPUI majoring in Elementary Education. She is from Gary, Indiana. When she isn’t at work she loves spending time with family & friends, dancing, playing basketball, going to church, and having a good time. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She loves to laugh and being a blessing unto others.
  • 44. Elise Darling Elise has been at the CYC since August of 2010. She is a Social Work major, and is currently a junior. She enjoys basketball and is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
  • 45. Jessica Montalvo (pictured on the right) Jessica is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Psychology. She plans to become a child psychologist. She started at the CYC in Spring 2011. She is a proud big sister of a 14-year-old brother and a 4-year-old sister. She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and is also involved in College Mentors for Kids. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and getting involved in activities that can better her as a person.
  • 46. Stephanie Murray Stephanie has been with the CYC since August of 2008. She is a senior at IUPUI majoring in Sociology and plans to go on to graduate school to earn her Masters in Social Work. She is originally from Memphis, Tennessee, and has a little brother who is 14. She enjoys singing. Her favorite color is pink.
  • 47. Bill Lowry Bill Lowry has been working at the CYC since September 2010. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 2009 and is majoring in Electrical Engineering. His hobbies include working on cars, hanging out with friends, and sports.
  • 48. Steven Kryder Steven is 22 years old and is currently a student at IUPUI pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Before coming to IUPUI, he spent two years at Ball State University double majoring in education and history. He is the youngest of two children, and his sister has a son who he looks after from time to time. He likes to play outside, especially with his dog, Titan. His hobbies include basketball, baseball, design, and camping.
  • 49. Chelsey Axline Chelsea has been with the CYC since October of 2011. She is from Pendleton, Indiana. She is a freshman at IUPUI majoring in Business Marketing. She is half Italian and loves her mom’s spaghetti. She has one sister, Ashley.
  • 50. Karley Johns (pictured on the right) Karley is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in Social Work. She has taken several education classes and hopes to someday be a school social worker. When she is not in class or at work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, hiking, fishing, and boating in the summer. She is from Princeton, a small town in southern Indiana which is close to Evansville, Indiana. Her family has a farm with three horses, a mini pony, a mini donkey, a goat, and several chickens.
  • 51. Ashley McLain Ashley is a freshman at IUPUI. She is majoring in Social Work and plan to pursue a career in Child Protective Services. Before working at the CYC, she worked for two years at the Shoe Carnival in Merrillville, Indiana as a sales associate. Surrounded by many cousins and a younger sister, she has grown to love and work with children. She enjoys her time working at the CYC and intends to be a positive influence on the children here.
  • 52. Jasmine Singh Jasmine has been working at the CYC since December of 2011. She is a freshman majoring in Nursing, and will apply this summer to IUPUI’s Nursing School. It has been her goal for a long time. She enjoys getting involved and working with others on campus. She is currently in the National Honor Society and is trying out for the OTEAM at IUPUI. Jasmine enjoys spending time with friends and family. She hopes to use the experience she is gaining working with children when she fulfills her dream of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.
  • 53. Emma Richards Emma is a sophomore at IUPUI and is studying Exercise Science/Pre Physical Therapy. She is hoping that working at the CYC will help her learn more about child development and apply that when she becomes a physical therapist for children. Emma is from South Bend, IN, and provided after school care for a young man with Downs Syndrome for 4 years. In her free time, she enjoys playing basketball and spending time with her twin. She has a two-year-old poodle named Mia. She always enjoys a great Pacers or Colts game, and really likes to get involved with the community.
  • 54. Katie Ripperger (pictured in the middle) Katie is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in elementary education. She plans to finish school in four years and then teach overseas She started at the CYC in February of 2012. She is one of five brothers and sisters. She enjoys traveling, sports, outdoors, friends, and children.
  • 55. Sarah Farmer Sarah has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She moved to Indianapolis recently from Anderson, Indiana, and is a pre-nursing student. She is an EMT in her hometown. She has one older brother, Michael. In her free time, she enjoys working out and playing soccer.
  • 56. Tori Crosby (pictured on the left) Tori has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She is a freshman majoring in Nursing. She has a little sister and is from Anderson, Indiana. She enjoys running, and her favorite color is green.
  • 57. Jahleia Chieves Jahleia is twenty-years-old and a junior at IUPUI. She is a Forensics Science major, and in her spare time she likes to sing and dance. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she came to Indiana to pursue a college education. Her goal is to graduate with a Bachelors degree and eventually a Masters and Doctorate if possible. Her long term goal is to work for an accredited state crime lab and eventually have children of her own.
  • 58. Maria Huizar Maria has been with the CYC since February of 2012. She is a freshman at IUPUI. She is from East Chicago, Indiana. She has been helping take care of her 5 siblings since she was four-years-old. She has had a paying job since she was 15-years-old. In her spare time she likes to listen to music and hang out with friends. Her spare time is limited, however, with all of the child watching she does.
  • 59. Skye Leasure Skye started working in childcare in 2007, babysitting for a few families on her block. Since then, she has worked in her church’s nursery and have cared for many children. Since coming to IUPUI this past year, she has been involved with a tutoring program at George Washington and has also been involved with other community events. Skye plans to have her own classroom someday. Working at the CYC has been a great experience for learning the ins and outs of running a classroom. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and making art. Although she doesn’t get to see her family much, she absolutely loves the time they have together! In the future, she plans on always making time for the important things in life, such as her relationships with loved ones, even when things get stressful.
  • 60. Kiana Klein Kiana is in her second semester of Freshman year at IUPUI. Her major is Elementary Education and she plans to get a license in Special Needs education. After graduating, I would love to continue to work at a childcare center or become an elementary school teacher around Indianapolis. She has worked previously as a nanny and as a camp counselor at Kamp Kaleidoscope. For fun, she likes to study films, go for long walks around Indianapolis, and spend time with her little sister.
  • 61. Kayla Rainey Kayla is a sophomore at IUPUI and is studying Exercise Science/Pre-OT. Kayla LOVES video games and also loves to spend time with her four younger brothers. She also has a German Rottweiler named Rajah. In her spare time she enjoys reading, playing the violin and spending time with her family and friends.
  • 62. Nicole Ambrogi Nicole is a sophomore at IUPUI majoring in Elementary Education. She enjoys spending time with my friends and family, including her dog, Frazier. She has one brother, Dan, who will be a sophomore in high school. She loves to be creative! She enjoys reading, writing, and dancing!
  • 63. Lindsey Ford Lindsey is a junior at IUPUI. Her major is Social Work. Lindsey was a former employee of CYC in 2005. Her schedule has changed and has allowed her to come back. Lindsey has worked with children of all ages. She likes building relationships with the children and helping to make a safe environment. Lindsey’s favorite color is blue. She loves many things: butterflies, reading, wearing heels, poetry, and music. Lindsey attends Purpose of Life Ministries church where she has been a member since 2007.
  • 64. Sheila Jeevan I am from Terre Haute with a B.S. in Biology and a Masters in Secondary Education. I am currently finishing up my Masters in Public Affairs and starting a Masters in Public Health. But really, I just like to play with kids.
  • 65. Katie Hamer Katie has been at the CYC since August of 2012. She is a nursing student at IUPUI. She has two younger brothers and is from Valparaiso, IN. She has prior work experience running a sports summer camp for elementary aged children. She is involved in Phi Mu helping raise money for the children of Riley hospital. She would like to work in pediatrics someday. She enjoys hanging out with friends, boating, spending time with family, playing with her dog, and playing tennis.
  • 66. Mariah Moss Mariah is a Sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in elementary education. She plans to become an elementary teacher in a public school or daycare. She enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephew and other family. She also loves to spend time with her friends and have fun.
  • 67. Megan Lung Megan is majoring in social work and she plans to be a mental health and substance abuse counselor. She grew up in Kendallville, IN. She loves watching and participating in live theatre. She enjoys hanging out with friends and trying new restaurants, as well as going to Chicago Cubs baseball games with my grandpa. She has a boyfriend named Brandon, who also goes to IUPUI. They've been together almost four years :)
  • 68. Jordy Rush (pictured on the right) Jordy is a junior and is majoring in art education. She plans on teaching levels of kids from K-12 wherever she can but would like to work in a different state at some point. She keeps very busy with work and school. When she does have free time, she enjoys movies, reading, going to dinner with friends, and obviously art.
  • 69. Emily Harley Emily is a sophomore here at IUPUI. Major: Pre-Radiography, then Medical Imaging Technology for a Bachelor's degree. She wants to be an Ultrasound Technician specializing in Sonography. Favorite color is blue. Favorite movies are The Lion King and The Avengers. She loves listening to music, watching movies and game shows, drawing, reading, photography, swimming, being outside (when it's warm of course! (: ) animals, spending time with family, friends & her boyfriend.
  • 70. Micheala Bryant Micheala is a Psychology Major and has been with the CYC since September. She enjoys shopping, singing (she loves all kinds of music), traveling and trying different tasty foods!
  • 71. Uloma Nwaka My name is Uloma Nwaka. I started working at CYC in September 2012. I am currently a double major sophomore majoring in Social Work and Physician Assistant. I have enjoyed working with and helping kids. I plan to specialize in a social work and PA career that deals mostly with children. I love exercising, shopping, spending time with friends and family, watching movies, trying new things, and being involved in helping others in the community. I love Kobe Bryant and the L.A. Lakers.
  • 72. Chelsea Geesa Chelsea is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Elementary Education. She plans on being either a kindergarten teacher or an elementary art teacher. She has always loved working with kids and watching them grow. She enjoys running, spending time with family and friends, scrapbooking, art, baking, traveling, shopping, and soccer.
  • 73. LaShata Grayson LaShata has worked in an elementary school setting in Gary, Indiana for 4 years. She has three brothers and two sisters. She is a sophomore at IUPUI studying Health Service Management with a minor in Business. LaShata enjoys singing, dancing, and drawing. She loves working with children, especially making them smile.
  • 74. Paige Billings (pictured on left) My name is Paige Billings, I am a Sophomore at IUPUI majoring in Elementary Education in hopes to one day become a 1st or 2nd grade teacher. I am from Monticello, IN and am the youngest of 3 siblings, two being brothers. In my spare time I love to watch old tv shows and spend time with friends. I also work at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
  • 75. Chelsey Budd Chelsey is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in Psychology. She would like to become a child life specialist when she is done with school. She started at the CYC in October of 2012. She enjoys playing softball and volleyball. She also likes to go shopping.
  • 76. Cece Sanchez Cece is a Freshman at Ivy Tech and is majoring in General Studies She plans to become a nurse at Riley Hospital. She started at the CYC in October of 2012. She enjoys listening to music and spending time with her family and friends back at home.
  • 77. Audrey Lukasheay (pictured on the right) Audrey is a freshman at IUPUI and is majoring in psychology. She plans to become a therapist. She started at the CYC in January of 2013. She enjoys reading and baking.
  • 78. Rachel Mathes My name is Rachel Mathes and I just started at CYC in December 2012. Currently I am a sophomore at IUPUI, studying Exercise Science Pre-OT. I have always enjoyed working with kids and helping them learn, and plan to specialize in pediatrics during my career. I love exercising, spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, and being involved in helping others whether it be at school, church, or in the community. I am currently a part of the Golden Key Honor Society through Indiana University and hope to become as involved on campus as I can.
  • 79. Andrienne Tabor My name is Andrienne Tabor and I just recently started working at the CYC in January 2013. I am a freshman at IUPUI and my major is Pre-med biology. I have always enjoyed working with and helping young children, which is why I want to be a pediatrician. I enjoy hanging out with friends, spending time with family, watching movies, especially Disney movies, and being involved in SAPB (student activities programming board) where I have met a lot of wonderfully interesting people who I have become really good friends with.
  • 80. Prensis McClain Prensis is a sophomore at IUPUI and is majoring in Health Service Management. She plans to become a Health Services Coordinator. She started at the CYC in January of 2013. She enjoys volunteering at her church.
  • 81. Jessica Chichester (pictured on the right) Jessica is a junior at IUPUI and is majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Sciences. She plans to become a teacher in the Indianapolis area. She started at the CYC in January of 2013. Jessica is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and ESAC on campus. She enjoys coaching, playing volleyball, and being with family and friends.
  • 82. Erin Tepe Erin Tepe joined the center in January of 2013. This is her first year at IUPUI. She is an Elementary Education major and plans to graduate in four years. She would like to teach first grade when she graduates. She grew up in Elkhart, Indiana where she lived with her mom and brother. Outside of school and work, Erin loves spending time with her family and friends. She also loves shopping and movies. In Elkhart, she lives on the river and enjoys taking boat rides. She also played volleyball for two years in high school and six years prior to that. She's been babysitting for many years now and loves working with children.
