Institutions struggle to address growing and changing learner needs, while supporting faculty members and meeting institutional objectives. Blended learning emerges to address these and several other challenges (access, accountability, affordability) as an optimized delivery mode. Blended courses often have better completion rates, have demonstrated improved learning outcomes, and are appealing to a broader student and faculty member audience than solely online courses. Having directed several technology and teaching grants in higher education, Dr McGee has also has six appointments as research faculty through the Office of Naval Research, the AF Research Lab, and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (formerly NLII) studying emerging technologies and learning systems, particularly those used in distributed learning environments. She actively participates in EDUCAUSE and Sloan-C and is a recipient of a United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) Gold Award for Online Technology in Higher Education. Patricia is an active consultant and invited speaker in the areas of strategies for faculty support, instructional design for online and blended learning, and strategies for pedagogically sound applications of digital tools and resources. Her most recent interests include storytelling as an instructional method and informal learning through Web 2.0 technologies.
