The document provides design guidelines for an OSC Action Center that take inspiration from nature. It describes how the center's aesthetics will be guided by nature through imagery, colors, typefaces, sound, movement, shapes, materials, space, and lighting that reflect the beauty and wonder of the Oregon landscape and engage visitors with the natural environment. Design elements will change with the seasons, using materials from the region's history and future in a sustainable way.
6. Typefaces...
A mixture of clean,
professional typefaces
and rough or handwritten
typefaces to capture the
spectrum of design within
sustainability
from sleek to DIY.
8. Sound...
Make use of water
systems for sound.
Real time recording of birds throughout the
seasons and areas of playback focused in
designated lounging areas in the Action
Center
9. Movement...
Mimic movement in nature such as capillary action, or
harness natural movement like wind or rain through
mechanisms like moving mirrors.
13. Space...
...that emulates the
natural habitat and
delightful spaces
within a forest.
14. Lighting...
...Lanterns
Reflecting on an earlier time when everything moved at a slower pace and
generations read, held discourse, darned and contemplated by the soft, gently
flickering light of a lantern and campfire...the warmth associated with an
'open flame' is an area we'd like to focus development of the artificial light
within the Action Center. A mix of streamlined and sculptural forms, with
carefully selected materials, that would function like lanterns of yore, but
with the energy efficiency of modern LED technology.
15. ...Natural Light
An installation with the same
effect as dappled light through a
tree canopy.
Using light and the arc of the sun
path throughout the seasons and
camera obscura of the streetcar.
16. ...Embedded light
Light emitting 'wallpaper' and clocks would enable a variety
of effects and information that integrates with materials.
17. Campfire
LED Campfire ‘pit groups’
where groups of people can
gather and commune...like
mankind has always done...
