History of health rights • WHO constitution (1948) aims to make highest attainable standard of health as one of the fundamental rights of every human being (without distinction). • Article 12 of The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966) was the first document to outline steps which need to be taken to realize Right to Health. •In May 2000, The Committee on Economic , Social and Cultural Rights adopted a general comment (no. 14) on Right to Health.

- My Name is Neelesh Qs we will answer Do we or do we not Have health rights in India? How are we achieving Universal Health Rights? Can larger countries learn from our experiences?
- We need to make use of changing social scenario to increase availability and accessibility to healthcare. Our methods should be acceptable to the public. There should be no compromise in quality. This is called the Rights Based Approach to Health.
- This is the maternal Mortality in various Indian states. It is falling all over the country. Mothers now know they need to go to hospital to deliver and that it’s a completely free service and all expenses are reimbursed by the govt for institutional deliveries. (JSY)
- Similarly IMR is also falling. We saw amazing drop in IMR after introduction of the ORS and telling people how to use it. Campaigns' like Pulse Polio did wonderful work in India with eradication of the diseases in India.
