The Archaeology Data Service:
•set up in 1996
•one of five AHDS subject centres
•based within the University of York
Funding:

•Arts and Humanities Research Board (now AHRC)
•Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)
•Presently receives core funding from AHRC alongside a range
of project-based funding.

14. CARARE Vision
Including unique archaeological monuments, architecturally
important buildings, historic town centres, industrial monuments
and landscapes in Europeana, the European Digital Library
• CARARE is defining the functional requirements for Europeana to include
3D
• Workflow for content providers – preparation of metadata, publication and
delivery online for education, tourism and general public
• Supporting content providers in preparing their 3D content and metadata
for harvesting

18. Value & Economic Impact Analysis
• ADS data and services are important in users’ academic, private
and commercial research, heritage management, teaching and
learning.
• 53% of users said that not being able to access ADS data and
services would have a severe or major impact on their work.
• Users realise significant efficiency benefits from ADS data and
services in terms of time and effort (e.g. from it providing a one-
stop point of access, because the data would be expensive
and/or beyond their capacity to collect themselves, etc.).
• It is clear from user responses that they place a considerable
value on their ability to access ADS data and services, although
many have a limited capacity to pay for such services.
