2. Professional tennis instructor Donald (Don) Gomsi
has received honors as Tester of the Year from the
United States Professional Tennis Association’s
(USPTA’s) San Diego and Northern California regions.
Also the San Diego region’s head tester since 2000,
Don Gomsi maintains the highest level of current
tennis knowledge to evaluate potential instructors’
capabilities.
Anyone over the age of 18 who desires to earn a
major share of their income from teaching tennis
should seek certification from USPTA. To qualify for
certification, individuals must meet the USPTA’s
application, experience, and examination
requirements.
3. At present, the USPTA certification exam covers
stroke production and teaching technique.
Applicants must take these portions of the exam
in the presence of a USPTA-certified tester, as
well as successfully complete written and grip
evaluations, which are available online.
With regional test sites across the country, USPTA
aims to make certification examinations
accessible to tennis professionals. After an
applicant has completed all sections of the
certification examination, the organization mails
final results to applicants in approximately four
to six weeks.
