- *PRESS BUTTON*Hello, I am Dominic Rose, candidate number 6023 and this is my A2 G324: Advanced Portfolio in MediaAnd I am going to be presenting my coursework of brief 2, A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with a poster for the film. And a film magazine front cover, featuring the film;*PRESS BUTTON*Here is part 3 of my research and planning, organisation of actors, locations, costume and props*PRESS BUTTON*Here is my production schedule for my research and planning stage, to ensure I kept on track with my work.This section will focus on weeks 13 – 16 . I will also be looking at the starting process in choosing actors in week 5.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 5 commencing 11th November 2010I wanted to start selecting actors early on in my research so that I could see how my production would take placeTo make sure that I had the right actors I took them on photo shoots so I could see how the look on camera and how there acting abilities are*PRESS BUTTON*I took my first prospective actor for the role of jay on a photo shoot.Location – Inside a bedroom. This is because it is symbolic of Jay’s feeling that he keeps them up inside and not out in the world. The use of black wallpaper makes Jay stand out and keeps the audience’s attention on him. Costume – cream and red hoody. The use of cream and red is that cream is a rather bland colour that you never really notice much like Jay in Charlottes eyes. She never sees him for his emotions. Red is symbolic of love, the red at the front of the hoody makes it prominent that Jays feelings for Charlotte are pure love, to lust or seduction. The block red makes it obvious, as in Jay’s eyes it’s obvious that he loves her yet this shroud of cream doesn’t let Charlotte see. The use of a hoody is because Jay can easily put it up and hide his feeling away from Charlotte. Actor – Jay’s emotions and character can be easily adopted by this actor. The facial expression really shows what Jay is thinking and how he feels. The actor I have used in this photo shoot is rather attractive, (pleasing my audience as one of their main points for a romance film was to have an attractive male protagonist). Digital Technology – This photo shoot really got me used to using a camera and tripod and portrait and landscape images. The use of the camera is also what I may be using for my magazine front cover.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*I then looked at a prospective actress for Charlotte, I wanted to do two photo shoots with this actress as I feel that Charlotes character has two different sides, the sudictive side that all the men see then the playful nice warming side of her character that Jay sees.My first photoshoot was of Charlottes warm characterLocation – The beach is a location I will be using in the teaser trailer for one shot at the beach party. Also the pier shot will definitely be in the teaser trailer so being near a pier helped me get ideas for my poster whether it would look good with the pier in the background. The clear blue sky shows that in Jays eyes Charlotte can do no wrong. Costume – Dressing Charlotte with a blue scarf already gives us an idea of the weather and time of the year that the film is set. The blue shows us that in Jay’s eyes, Charlotte is being cold hearted in that she is not noticing her or paying attention to the fact he loves her. She is also in a miniskirt as this gives the impression of Charlotte being a sexual character. Her red hair draws everybody’s attention to Charlotte and keeps it focused on her. Actress – Charlotte in this scene is shown as fun loving admirable spunky young girl whom I can see that this actress has shown. She is smiling and never looking at the camera, again enhancing this concept that Charlotte never notices Jay. Digital Technology – I have played around with the camera angles on this photo shoot trying to angle the camera so it is looking up at Charlotte so it is like we are taken from Jay and every other man’s perspective that she is someone to look up at and desire. *PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*My second charlotte photo shootLocation – At night makes Charlotte seem far more alluring that during the day time, having Charlotte near a lamppost has this is because it may be a location for the film poster as the lamppost signifies hope as the light is up there like it’s been realised from Pandora’s box. Costume – Compared to the previous photo shoot Charlotte isn’t wearing leggings which make her far more seductive and enticing. The high-waisted shorts make Charlotte look attractive yet still remains this spunky, upbeat, fun image. The use of red and dark blue makes her far more feminine than keeps this red obvious that she is a love object that Jay, every other man in the film or an audience can aspire to have. Actress – The actress has a great sense of Charlotte’s character that she still keeps this fun, cheeky approach yet she is sexy and an object of desire towards the men in the film. Digital Technology – In this photo shoot I remained the straight forward shooting skills with a tripod as this shoot was to see how photos would look in different lighting conditions.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 7 commencing 25th October 2010In week 7 my original actor for Jay pulled out due to other commitments, so I had to recast, after looking at many actors I chose Ross and here is his photo shoot*PRESS BUTTON*Location – Outside near lampposts to signify hope like in Pandora’s Box (see Charlotte Photo Shoot 2 for similar photos). This is the other side to Jay and how he copes outside when he sees Charlotte all over Jake or Dan and how Jay feels about the situation. The bench idea was that he doesn’t fit in with Charlotte’s boyfriends and there is something unique that’s why he doesn’t fit into the regular pattern of sitting on the bench. Costume – Jay is wearing quite current clothes that a teenager would wear, but not so expensive that it looks like staged costume. It reflects the representation of the audience and how they have a narracistic effect upon Jay. The black resembles that she isn’t seen by Charlotte that she completely misses him out and doesn’t see him as a boyfriend. The black fades him into the back ground. Actor – This actor understands Jays emotions and portrays them pretty well, he gets that he is don’t looked upon as is always inside his own bubble. The actor I have chosen is still quite attractive yet not too attractive that Charlotte wouldn’t be with him straight away. He has a loving quality to him which Jay needs as he needs to build a sense of catharsis from the audience. Digital Technology – I have played around with using natural light, flash from camera and torches in this photo shoot to see which ones are more effective. The flash gives the picture an unnatural quality whereas natural light is much better and when darker torches are also very effective.I think I have chosen a suitable and professional replacement for ‘Jay’.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Here is my photo shoot between Charlotte and Jake, I did this because I wanted to see how to relationship between these two characters worked on character.Location – Outside to co-inside with Jays photo shoot of ‘Charlotte sees right through me’. This encompasses Charlotte’s seductive side yet Jake seems to tame it and make her feel more homely and welcome when with him, she feels the less need to be seductive. Jake makes her feel comfortable where Charlotte feels she is most on show. Costume – Charlottes blue scarf has been used again to show that she is cold-hearted towards Jay yet doesn’t see it as sees the scarf for what it is, a scarf. Jake is wearing green as he is jealous of the attention Charlotte gives Jay as Jake knows how Jay feels. The black jacket shows the resemblance between Jake and Jay of how much they love Charlotte they are seen through. Actor – This actor shows the need to be close with Charlotte and the possessiveness within the character although subtly shown there are these elements there. In the next photo shoot he shows how he feels about Jay through looking at him, this really shows how quickly this actor has got to grips with the character Digital Technology – Yet only simple mid shots this enables the actors to show their character through their acting not different shots*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 13 commencing 7th February 2011This is my task from over Christmas which was to search for location ideas*PRESS BUTTON*These each show a significant part of the trailer and are rich in mise – en – scene*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*After looking at my location ideas I needed to choose what I would use them for.*PRESS BUTTON*I have chosen this location for the back alley scene because it’s the rawness of the scene and the urban surroundings. This is parallel to reality where many crimes are caused in back alleys like this.*PRESS BUTTON*\\i have chosen Sandown pier to be the location for the pier scene, because this pier has a long seafront covered in lampposts, this keeps the lighting of the scene perfect for the run up and then the pier has a view over this seafront where the lights reflect on the water*PRESS BUTTON*Here is Rachel’s room this is rich in mise-en-scene from the ‘party the night before’ there are sleeping bags everywhere, fairy lights, underwear and alcohol within the scene. The wallpaper shows that that it is a female room, the lighting is bright from the window meaning I will not need to add extra lights.*PRESS BUTTON*This gate and street show the normality of life showing to an audience that this isn’t a fairytale, this long street also gives me the opportunity to use a low angle shot looking up at charlotte with the long scenery behind them*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 14 commencing 14th February 2011I needed to choose my final actors to my film so that I would be ready to shoot my film with the perfect actors.*PRESS BUTTON*For Jay I chose Ross Wilkes this is because he is a relatable and a believable actor, he clearly grasps the character and it attractive which is what my audience had asked for*PRESS BUTTON*For Charlotte I chose Charlotte Denness this is because she is alluring and seductive which is what this character needs to be to have all the attention of the men, she shows her clear emotion of the character and the both sides of seductive and friendly.*PRESS BUTTON*James Griffiths is the person I chose for the role of Jake as he is threating and when on screen shows his power and authority, he also works very well with Charlotte which is what I need for the trailer*PRESS BUTTON*Rachel’s character was for my actress Helena Bartholomew, Helena is a smoker and lives this ‘skins’ lifestyle that her character needs making her acting become far more naturally to her, she also works well with Ross*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*After choosing my locations and actors I need to make sure that I was able to film in them, the only places I needed to ask for permisson were; The Pier andThe Youth Club.The youth club is where I will be shooting my photo shoot for the film poster.*PRESS BUTTON*Here is note from the leader of the youth club. Stuart Capewell giving me permission to have a photoshoot there.The pier is where I wanted to film yet when going there to ask permission I found that this location is not open again until summer, so that I will be filming on the sand beside it instead as this still gives me the mise-en-scene I need.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 15 commencing 21st February 2011Now all my locations and actors were decided I could construct a filming schedule which still lets me have time for my performing arts work*PRESS BUTTON*The shoots that are in red are those that are in nighttimeThose in green are in day light and The blue circles are the poster and magazine photo shootsOn Sunday and Saturday 5th and 6th of march I will film the pier scene at Sandown seafront at nightMonday the 7th I will film the letter writing scene after schoolThursday 10th I will film the café scene, this needs to be at night time as though the students have come straight from school and have been sitting there for a while, the nighttime is because that the film will be released in winter, therefore the sun will have gone down by then because of the clocks going backwardsSaturday and Sunday the 12th and 13th I will film the getting ready for school sequence, the will be filmed at my gate and front doorMonday 14th I will film the back Alley and, jakes name title scene. This is filmed in daylight as though he has just walked out from schoolWednesday 16th is when I will be doing my photo shoot 6pm – 8pm In the youth clubSaturday 19th and Sunday 20th is when I will have my magazine photo shoot and film Rachel’s bedroom scene these again can both be shot at my house.Tuesday 22nd I will be shooting the car photo shoot. This needs to be at night because it should be as though a dream sequence, as this is merely a snippet of when Jay and Rachel are kissing that he is imaging CharlotteAnd my last shoot will be done on Tuesday 24th this is Charlotte, Jay and Rachel’s title shots.*PRESS BUTTON*
- *PRESS BUTTON*Week 16 commencing 28th February 2011My last part of research and planning was to organise the costume and props of the shoots.Here are the photos of Jay’s costume, these are all dark and bland costumes, these let Jay’s character come through, the darkness can also show the hiding of Jays love for CharlotteJay will be topless in the getting ready shoot because my audience wanted attractive actors and this is a way I can do this without it seeming weird, as Jay could be getting ready but not ready for school yet.*PRESS BUTTON*
