3. Dear Friends,
Once again we come to the month of ‘Remembrance’ November. We shall be holding our annual Rosemary
Service when we have an opportunity to remember
those whom we love but see no longer on 3rd
November at 6pm.at St. Margaret's Church, Stra&on.
5th November follows when fireworks and the
gunpowder plot give an excuse for fun, but the
following weekend we are reminded of the tragedy of
war and those who have given their lives for the cause
of freedom.
If we look at scripture we see that history con, nues to repeat itself. The agony and horror of
human conflict is recorded just as it is today. The scriptures encourage us to remember and
there is the saying which reminds us that ‘if we ignore history we are condemned to repeat it.’
Scripture also reminds us that God is hur,ng with us. There are many mighty saving acts
recorded throughout the Bible with two key acts of God. Jewish people remember their
deliverance through celebra,ng the Passover, and Chris, ans share broken bread and wine
poured out in remembrance of the Lord’s death un,l he comes again.
A ba&le is being fought for the soul of our na,on as many forget God or reject his existence. We
appear to be self-sufficient, placing faith in our own ability to exist. Perhaps this rephrased
version of Psalm 8 reflects today’s view—’O man how excellent is your name in all the earth.
Who has set your glory above the heavens. When I consider your inven, ons: the works of your
hands, the aeroplanes and nuclear bombs which you have made, what is God that I should be
mindful of him or the Son of God that I should reverence him?’
The scriptures and history show the consequences of godless living and yet we ignore them
both. The major threats to our world and society all stem from ignoring the spiritual side of life.
It is in our depths we are formed and the outlook is not promising except for the fact that God is
with us which we will celebrate at Christmas. Its not just a heart-warming story—it’s a heart
transforming truth.
God Bless,
Vicky Fleming

Celebrating Harvest
Once again the church was beautifully decorated - a huge thank you to
the Flower Team for all their hard work. We had wonderful homemade
cakes and drinks to welcome people and collected produce for
Swindon Foodbank as well as collecting almost £100 for Tearfund.
The School Harvest Service was excellent and it was such a joy to be
able to share this with them in our church. The church was full with so many parents
coming and supporting their children that some had to stand at the back of the church.
Meeting Point celebrated its fifth birthday last month. This is something we started as a
service to the community which gives people an opportunity to meet up with
friends, the Youth Group have supported us well by providing a tuck shop.
Thank you for your support everyone who helps and attends.
