Why Join Us in Ireland and the UK?

What Students Have Said…
• “Without a doubt the London study abroad program was the most

• “I don‟t think God could have designed a better mix of people and
especially not professors. I know that I have made some great
friends from this trip. I loved every moment of the trip …. I really
enjoyed the interaction and sincerity of the group. This was an
amazing journey.”
• “Choosing to participate in the London Sport, Commerce, & Culture
in the Global Marketplace Study Abroad program was a great
decision for my professional and personal life. Getting exclusive

Editor's Notes

  1. Changed the font to make it easier to read, given the background.
  2. One of the oldest programs in terms of offering students the opportunity to study abroad and experience sport from a global perspective.Pics of U of M students on previous trips!
  3. Many of you aspire to work for large organizations that operate in the globalized world. This experience will give you a better appreciation of the dynamic sport and cultural differences that organizations of all types must negotiate in their operations. Many employers like to see that you have experienced international contexts and gotten out of your comfort zone. What can U.S. sport organizations learn from Irish and English approaches?
  4. Some quotes from students who have gone of the trip. Never met a student who came back from this and did not talk highly of their experience or it not meeting their expectations.
  5. We do not go on the trip until second half of summer in order to allow students to complete a first summer session course if they desire. We do not meet regularly as a class, but we may call meetings to better organize the group or be in touch through email. Since this is for 6 hours course credit, during the first half of the summer you will have readings, discussion boards, and other assignments to get you ready for the trip. You must read! This is all done to get you fully prepared for the trip so we can have more engaging conversations based on the literature and a more enjoyable trip! You must be willing to speak up and converse during this trip. Cannot be the quiet, silent type! You will need to quickly submit final assignments once we get back, but we will advise you to start preparing and researching for those assignments before leaving on the trip.
  6. Croke Park:With a capacity for 82,300 people is the 4th largest stadium in Europe
  7. English Premier League is perhaps the most prominent soccer league in the world and Chelsea (#45) and Arsenal (#10) were ranked among the 50 most valuable sport franchises in the entire world according to Forbes in 2012 (http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2012/07/16/manchester-united-tops-the-worlds-50-most-valuable-sports-teams/)Octagon is one of the primer sports agencies in the world not just representing athletes, but also executing major sport events and implementing sport sponsorships across the globe.
  8. Also bring business and casual cloths for site visits and free time.
  9. Actually participating in local sports also! Pics of rugby and Olympic Park, which we will get to see and learn more about while over there!
  10. It is tuition you would pay anyway and it is in-state tuition for everyoneLeave you to book flight to find cheapest flight and allow you to experience other parts of Europe if you choose
  11. Most of our students have been successful in getting the Study Abroad Scholarship, which can cover a large portion of the program package cost Again, these are tuition credit hours that you would pay for anyway. March 1 is deadline for Study Abroad Scholarship.
  12. Almost in all previous years, all slots have filled up and students have had to be put on a waitlist. Don’t hesitate to get your application and deposit submitted!!! Slots will likely fill well before the Feb 1 deadline.
