5 Reasons Why a Blog Is Your BEST Marketing Strategy!
At a recent Dyks van Heerden property morning at the IEASA campus in Pinelands I had the
privileged to listen to to great speakers. Gerhard van Rensburg (trainer to the stars) and Andre
du Toit (the big positive guy). Listening to them gave me a number of aha moments and this is
the reason for this blog on why a blog is a better marketing strategy.

The Big Positive Guys economic talk was
phenomenal and he really brought an otherwise dull subject to life.

The one point that stood out for me was that as an average Estate Agent today, you have a
better chance of selling a house every month than what you had during the boom times.

Here’s the math: in 2007 there were 80 000 plus Estate Agents to sell 40 000 plus houses per
month, so the average was 1 every two months, right?

The current figures are 20 000 odd Estate Agents to sell 20 000 odd houses per month, so the
average has IMPROVED to 1 a month, wow! Did you know that?

Exciting news, isn’t it? But lets get back to why a blog is your best marketing strategy.

#1 – CONTROL! – As an Estate Agent, whether you work for a 50/50 split or not you need to
take control of your marketing in order to make sure you get your average share at least. A
company website, Social Media forms part of your marketing strategy, so do property portals
BUT none of them puts you in control and clearly positions you as an area expert.

None of the above marketing strategies lift you out and eliminates the competition better than a
blog about your neighbourhood. A blog also gives you a tool to help you get better ROI from
your marketing efforts.

#2 – SUPERIOR PROSPECTING TOOL! – Gerhard’s talk was about the importance of The
Sole Mandate, something many Estate Agents seems to shy away from, even though it remains
your key to REAL, Real Estate success. With a blog about your neighbourhood you can position

                                                                                            1/3
YOURSELF as the area specialist. YOURSELF, nobody else because at the end of the day
YOU are responsible for your success, nobody else.

You can also use it as a tool to set you apart from the competition. You have a very real
opportunity to control your local market with a blog. I say this because more than 80% of the
buyers looking for property in your area starts their search online!

#3 – RELATIONSHIP BUILDING! - A blog is the perfect tool to turn on and off-line
relationships into mutually beneficial relationships. When you start blogging about your
community it gives a BETTER than average opportunity to approach influential neighbours and
business owners in the area because you want to feature and promote them online.

These relationships have the potential to flourish and turn into great business opportunities in
the future. As you know people are more likely to respond to you if they believe they can get
value out of the relationship, it’s the proverbial foot in the door.

#4 – UNLIMITED LIFESPAN! – A blog is not a here today gone tomorrow marketing tool. What
you write and post on it will still be there tomorrow, next week, next year and so on. Think about
it rationally, what is the lifespan of a flyer or a newspaper advert, a couple of days at most if at
all.

As opposed to that once you put a useful post on your blog it is there forever, possibly bringing
you business everyday, day after day, year after year. So now which is the more sound
marketing strategy?

#5 – COST! – A blog is the most EFFECTIVE, COST EFFECTIVE marketing strategy any
business can invest in. Imagine what it would cost you to place a magazine advert or do a
pamphlet drop day after day after day, I don’t think any company has that much money.

Instead at a fraction of the cost of traditional media you can create a blog that will advertise you
and your business to a LASER TARGETED market 24/7/365 year in and year out, make sense?

Let me paint you a picture. It’s a lovely summers evening, across the table from you
basking in candle light a loving face reflects back at you. You’ve just shared a fantastic
meal with the love of your life. You are enjoying your customer experience.

You ask to see the owner to compliment her. She arrives and you tell her you had such
a memorable experience you are going to write about it on your blog where 100?s of
your adoring fans will read it and where can you e-mail her once you’ve published the
       article.

Get the picture, you’ve used your online presence to make an off-line connection that if
you nurture it will turn into a prospect and even a client over time, how easy was that.

So what do you think?

                                                                                               2/3
Obviously there’s going to be a learning curve and some cost involved to get your blog
established BUT when you compare the lifespan and the reach it out weighs ANY other form of
marketing, no argument. So on your way out hit one of the share buttons and leave a comment,
let me know what you think?

Oh yes like with any great opportunity you have a window for a short while, until the rest of the
country catches on, better not take to long to decide….
