THE BAD NEWS: African Americans account for less than 7% of all Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
THE GOOD NEWS: Global Health Connections International (GHCI), a nonprofit based in
Raleigh, is partnering with primary and secondary schools to build the next
cadre of African American STEM professionals. GHCI is launching Looking
Forward, a 1st of its kind STEM Mentoring and Tutoring program, in which 50
students per school per year will receive 2000 cumulative hours of mentoring
and tutoring from local STEM professionals.
WHAT: Launch of Looking Forward H20, a STEM Mentoring and Tutoring Program that
will prepare minority students to embrace and excel at STEM careers.
