Communication Technologies of
          the Future
 When you look at the progression of communication
technology over the last few decades it has been an
incredible journey. The transition of the technology
era has allowed access to the world at the touch of a
finger. Daily life has become easier and much faster
and communication has become much more simpler.
The limits of the future of communication technology
can only be speculated, but the sky is the limit when it
comes to the advances and progression of
 communicating.
Google Glasses
A new innovative ideal has been created called Google Glasses. I know
that this is a strong statement, but I believe that in ten years this
concept will be the new smart phone.
 “This pair of glasses is basically your computer right on top of your
head. The goal is to help make augmented reality a daily part of our
lives using just a tiny computer within the frame of the glasses.”
Google Glasses
 These glasses allow you to pull up the weather, store specials, sport
scores or to take and share photos, video chat, check appointments,
and access maps and have complete internet access. A complete hands
  free device.
 Imagine the ease of slipping on a pair of glasses and being instantly
  connected to the world.
 There is no need for physically searching for information, everything is
voice activated. I like to think of Google Glasses as an enhanced
  version of Siri.
Critical Mass Theory
 When I begin to think of the Google Glasses ideal I begin to think of
the concept in terms of the critical mass theory, especially the tipping
  point.
 The book states that critical mass is an important aspect to consider for
the adoption of any interactive technology. The example that was used
was the video phone and how it was never really successful and when
comparing the Google Glasses , it has received negative feedback for
  the concept and actual design.
 I think that the critical mass theory actually will positively affect the
Google Glasses. If you think of how Facetime exploded for iPhone
users and how many customers transferred over to using iPhones for
that specific feature or for Siri, when the mass of users begin to use
Google Glasses I think this new communication technology will take
  off.
Education
 Education is, and will continue to be strongly influenced by
communication technologies. I feel that in ten years the number of
online or distance learning programs will increase significantly.
Education
 The transformation of learning has been deeply impacted by
communication technology, ranging from elementary all the way into
college. Professors at universities can now teach thousands of students
at the same time through online courses.
 I also believe that the use of video games will be used more for
educational reasons. Video games can now be used to not only teach
people, but involve them in real life situations. Virtual reality is almost
upon us and with that being said a stage of the diffusion of innovations
that is discussed by Roger’s is reinvention, which he states is the
process in which a person who adopts a technology begins to use it for
purposes other than was intended. I think that video games will still
be used for entertainment reasons, but I also think that there will be a
great deal of video games used for educational purposes. You can
think of it in terms of the LeapPads for kids, it is described as a gaming
system but is also a learning tool.
Social Learning Theory
 The social learning theory will have a significant impact on the future
of communication technology in education. The social learning theory
focuses on how people learn by modeling others. One of the easiest
ways for people to learn is from watching others. Online courses and
distant learning courses fall into this category, especially in subjects
like math. There are now tutorials to educate you and help you learn
  the material.
 This concept can also apply when viewing “how to” videos when
beginning a project or any kind of communication technology that
teaches people how to do different things.
Health Care
 Health care is an area that will continue to vastly improve over the next
  ten years involving communication technologies.
 The use of medical devices and accessibility of doctors can be made
easier for patients with the use computers or interactive televisions.
Health Care
 Accurate diagnoses will be able to be made for illnesses without an
actual doctor being physically in the same room.
 Prescriptions will be filled and mailed out almost instantly.
 Devices are being developed that can actually give x-ray from tablet like
  devices.
 Physical rehabilitation can now be done from home by being
instructed by real physicians all through your computer devices.
Principle of Relative Constancy
 When you think of health care or any other form of new
communication technology the principle of relative constancy
influences the success of the new concept.
 In the area of health care, I think that any new technology that allows
the patient to spend less time in a doctors office should be compelling
  enough.
 With the increasing population and the number of patients that a
doctor actually sees, a person who uses a new communication
technology for health care will decrease the amount of gas that they
use and time that they waste waiting on a doctor.
