2. What is an Intranet?
There are two types of computer networks.
1. Internet: Internet is a very large form of intranet and covers the whole world,
where billions of computers are connected to each other. We use internet
daily to connect with our Facebook, twitter or google accounts and for many
other purposes.
2. Intranet: Intranet is also same as internet but covers a very limited area, like a
school, college or university etc. All computers of that particular area are
connected to each other and share data and resources locally. Like in a bank
does.

3. Setting up intranet
Before ‘setting up intranet website’ you need to ‘set up intranet’ first. There are
many ways to do this.
1. Mobile Hotspot: These days android, apple and windows all popular
mobiles have a feature called Wi-Fi hotspot. You need to connect
computers/mobiles/laptop to that Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot. Generally 8-14
computers can be connected to it at one time.
2. Wi-Fi: Connect your computers/mobiles/laptop to a Wi-Fi router. Generally
hundreds of computer can connect through it.
3. HUB/Routers: These are network devices which uses connect computers and
laptops through cables only. This is the least reliable method. Does not
recommended.

4. Setting up an Intranet Server
1. Download and Install XAMPP Server: Now if you are connected with other
computers/laptops/mobiles then download XAMPP server and install on that
PC/Laptop that you are going to make server.
2. How To Install XAMPP: There are two types of files you will find to download
in purpose of installing XAMPP. ZIP and EXE. Zip is recommended. Because its
need to extract the files only in any drive. For EXE you need to follow the
instructions only. I mean Next -> Next.
3. Run Apache and MySQL: These are two services offered by XAMPP server.
Which will help to run our intranet website. Start xampp-control.exe which
you will found in XAMPP directory. Run it. And Then click start button to start
the two services (Apace and MySQL).

5. Setting up intranet website
1. Copy and paste your website project directory to xampp/Htdocs directory.
2. Goto xamppapacheconfextra and open httpd-vhosts.conf file in notepad.
3. Paste the below code and save the file.

4. Restart your apache server. Check your IP address. Enter it from other
computer or mobile’s browser. And your intranet website is ready.

6. Tips and Tricks
1. Launch your website over a large Wi-Fi network like over university Wi-Fi
network.
2. Make a CMS (Content Management System) website. And Host it on your
computer.
3. Make it 24 Hrs. available.
4. If this is done, Send the IP address of your computer to others who can
connect to your website. Serve any content to them. You can chat with
them. You can send Videos/music at lightning fast speed.
5. In a classroom, hostel, lodge: Make a Wi-Fi hotspot through your mobile.
Connect your laptop and say others to connect from that. And Enjoy. Your
computer will act as server. You can do fun in the classroom too. Chat,
share or enjoy.
