2. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how
do they represent social groups or issues?
My product titled “Ladies only please!” is a comedy-satire film. The main
aim of the film is to highlight some of the key issues faced by the Pakistani
society, in this clip stalking in particular, and to portray them in an ironic
and sarcastic light. Thus I have chosen to use the conventions as it is
necessary that the comedy portrayed is light-hearted and familiar to the
audience. I feel that if I were to challenge the conventions the main moral
messages would be over looked by the audience. Evidence of this is the
chase scene in my clip where the falls while running. It is extremely clichéd,
yet this light comedy easily portrays the idea of punishment upon doing
wrong.
3. The inspiration to do a satire-comedy came from watching movies like
Idiocracy and Monty Python's The meaning of life. Such movies were
inspiring as the set out to blend satire and comedy into a steady mixture
all the while getting their message across to the audience. My product
address the social issue of stalking and mistreating women on the
streets. This topic with is a largely ignored concern in the societies
around most of Pakistan, and Asia, is purposely made funny so that the
audience may easily absorbed the message behind it. The classes
represented in my product are for the most part teenage males, as
although they are not the primary suspects for such acts in society,
none-the-less they are an age group almost everyone can relate to.
Other classes represented her are the stereo-typical strict middle- age
women and carefree young women.
5. How would your product engage with the audience and
how would it be distributed as real media text?
My product would be captivating to the audience as it portrays serious
issues in a comical yet sarcastic light. Just like in the recent Bollywood
movie “PK” it address the critical issues and forces the audience to think
about them while at the same time laughing about it. It is also a family
movie which can be watched by all audiences. When it comes to
distribution of the movie however I would choose to distribute it online to
websites like Daily motion, YouTube and Netflix. As since this would be a
movie with no age restriction on age I believe it would get more fame and
attention if distributed free of cost. Also online releases sometimes give
the movie more fame for instance Sony’s movie “The interview.
6. How did your production skills develop through the project?
Through out the making of this project I have gained an improves
understanding about the making of movies and how things are done and
carried out behind the scenes of a film. Since I got to play the role of both
editor and director I have gained many skills which I other wise would not
have developed outside of the media studies subject. I have learnt to
execute different camera angles such as the POV shot displayed on mu clip
and panning. I have also leant about lighting and how to manipulate lights
to work best for me. When it comes to production I have improved in my
skill of direction as with practice (and many do-overs) my creativity as a
director has grown. Also lastly when it comes to editing I have come to
learn doe to fluidly string together the different components in order to
make a movie.
7. How did you integrate technologies (software, hardware and online) in
this project?
When it comes to the usage and manipulation of media technology no
doubt play a large role in the process. For my product the hardware
used was a DXLR cameras and a tripod stand. Their main primary
purpose was for the first part of the project which was the shooting
and obtaining of the original raw footage. Second came the software
which was in use that was Microsoft Movies Maker which enabled me
to string together and refine the footage turning it into the final
product. The additional software used was Mp3 downloader for the
sound effects. When it comes to online technologies I have decided to
distribute my film to the websites such as YouTube and Netflix.
The end.
