Notas do Editor
When considering plastic surgery, there is no substitute for an ASPS Member Surgeon. Member Surgeons: Are certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery® or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada®. Operate only in accredited medical facilities. Adhere to a strict code of ethics. Fulfill continuing medical education requirements, including standards and innovations in patient safety.
If you don’t know anyone who has been a patient of the surgeon, have the surgeon’s patient coordinator put you in contact with at least 2 former patients. Ask friends and acquaintances – word travels wide and far. Speaking with others who have had the same surgery you are considering is a fantastic way to become more informed. The internet … use wisely.Subjective impression is meaningless when selecting a surgeon. Craft should trump your desire to like them; in fact, it's OK to hate your surgeon. You simply need him to cut and sew very intelligently. So always select the surgeon who has already done the most iterations of whatever procedure you need. Stated in Zagat-ian terms: Which restaurant do you want to go to—the one with the line or the one that sits empty?
Good enough is not enoughDifference is in the details… Less complications More consistent results The patient experience – the goal is to have you feel perfectly at ease.
NYC vs Albany NYDoes more expensive always = better? It cost more to run a practice in a big city than it does in a little city. Rent, people/employees. Basic market forces at work. You pay the difference.Unlike most other forms of surgery, cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. Patients must pay out of pocket. Physicians who perform cosmetic surgery know their patients are price sensitive. Thus, patients can typically (a) find a package price in advance covering all services and facilities, (b) compare prices prior to surgery and (c) pay a price that is lower in real terms than the price charged 10 years ago for comparable procedures, despite huge increases in demand and considerable innovation.“Competition and innovation have led to lower-cost cosmetic procedures.”
Consistent NaturalOptimal
In plastic surgery, there are often several ways to approach an aesthetic problem, but usually one way is better than the rest – your surgeon needs to know which one that is.
Salesman vs Engineer Odds favor the engineerIf it sounds too good to be true it usually is Too busy to make you feel like you’re his only patient.Patients can call me anytime (especially after surgery). Our phone system forwards to my cell phone. Any question you may have is a question he should be happy to answerWhat’s he like after the check has been cashed? This goes back to the importance of getting references. If there’s a problem, will he fix it (at no cost to you).
