Ed Brubaker directed a successful production of Twelfth Night in 1977 at Malaspina College after working at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The document's author first met Ed when he played Caliban in The Tempest and learned a lot about acting and directing from working with Ed on Twelfth Night. Ed is now sadly in the final stages of terminal cancer but his mind remains sharp, and he recently reminisced with the author about their fond memories of Shakespeare, books, and life from that production.

Twelfth Night Act 1, scene 1, 1–3 In 1977 Ed came to Malaspina College from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to direct a production of Twelfth Night. I had first met Ed when he was playing Caliban in a production of The Tempest at the OSF. He was great. The production of Twelfth Night was a hit. Hundreds of school kids were bussed in for afternoon performances, and we played to SRO crowds at night. I learned a great deal about acting, directing and living from Ed Brubaker. He has been a friend ever since.
