1. TRENDS IN EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

 Instructional Technology - integrating
technology to enhance curriculum - smart
boards, power points, websites
 Gamification – using game design and
mechanics to increase motivation
 Flipped Classroom – students receive
direct instruction at home via video and
spend classroom time doing assignments
with teacher’s assistance

2. ONLINE LEARNING
 Nationally, there were an estimated
1,816,400 enrollments in distance-education
courses in K-12 school districts in 20092010, almost all of which were online
courses. 74% of these enrollments were in
high schools.
 AVI CHAI study in 2012 showed that only
23.4% of day schools offer online courses to
their students and only a handful of their
students (defined as less than 5%) are
enrolled in the online courses.

3. Blended Learning:
a formal education program in which a student
learns:
•
at least in part through online learning, with
some element of student control over time,
place, path, and/or pace;
•
at least in part in a supervised brick-andmortar location away from home;
•
and the modalities along each student’s
learning path within a course or subject are
connected to provide an integrated learning
experience.
