Earlier this month, Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most authoritative evaluator of charities, once again awarded the Durham Rescue Mission the highest possible rating for accountability, transparency, and sound fiscal management. This is the second year in a row that the Mission received four of four stars, a record shared by only 18 percent of the organizations Charity Navigator evaluates.

Earlier
this
month,
Charity
Navigator,
the
nation’s
largest
and
most
authoritative
evaluator
of
charities,
once
again
awarded
the
Durham
Rescue
Mission
the
highest
possible
rating
for
accountability,
transparency,
and
sound
fiscal
management.
This
is
the
second
year
in
a
row
that
the
Mission
received
four
of
four
stars,
a
record
shared
by
only
18
percent
of
the
organizations
Charity
Navigator
evaluates.
In
other
words,
the
Durham
Rescue
Mission
outperforms
the
majority
of
charities
in
the
country.
I
consider
it
an
honor
and
a
privilege
to
have
donated
so
much
of
my
time
and
energy
to
such
a
positively
effective
group.
But
that’s
not
all–a
few
weeks
ago,
the
Mission
announced
the
opening
of
a
fully
renovated
dormitory
in
the
Mission’s
church
building.
The
Center
for
Hope,
as
it’s
called,
was
opened
in
January
of
this
year.
At
the
time,
it
had
88
beds,
a
dining
room,
multiple
classrooms,
and
a
fully
stocked
kitchen,
but
as
the
cold
winter
approached,
even
all
this
proved
not
enough.
The
new
renovations
and
refurbishments
add
over
twenty
new
beds,
just
in
time
for
Thanksgiving.
Speaking
of
the
holiday,
I
know
I
am
not
alone
in
being
deeply
grateful
for
organizations
like
the
Durham
Rescue
Mission
who
offer
a
helping
hand
to
those
in
dire
need
of
it.
Happy
Thanksgiving
everyone!
