2. On Tuesday, 8 March 2011, Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the Master of the Rolls,
visited the Tuesday evening clinic of the South Westminster Law Centre.
Lord Neuberger is the Centre’s Patron, having been appointed in 2010 following the
death of the previous Patron, Lord Bingham, Lord Chief Justice. This was Lord
Neuberger’s first visit to the Centre.
Lord Neuberger spent about an hour and a half at the Centre, being conducted
around by Richard Walford of Serle Court chambers, the Chairman of the Trustees
and founder of the Centre. He chatted to volunteers and listened to discussions with
clients.
It was a busy evening at the Centre with advice being given to some 20 clients.
NOTE TO EDITORS
South Westminster Legal Advice Centre is a registered charity, founded in 1998,
funded wholly by private donations. Its objects are to provide free legal advice to
those who would not otherwise be able to pay for it, independently, fearlessly,
efficiently, and with integrity, and in a friendly and courteous manner. It operates two
drop-in legal clinics each week close to Victoria Station. It is staffed entirely by
volunteers. In 2010 it met approximately 900 clients.
