James Joyce was an Irish novelist considered one of the most influential modernist writers of the early 20th century. His most famous work, Ulysses, published from 1914-1921, follows one day in the life of Leopold Bloom in Dublin on June 16, 1904 and consists of over 260,000 words, taking Joyce at least 20,000 hours to write. Ulysses focuses on stream of consciousness and internal thoughts to narrate the day, now celebrated annually as Bloomsday by Joyce's fans worldwide.
