SEO is getting a new addition to the family with
Facebook’s new Graph Search, so let Quantum SEO
Solutions help you get started.
The biggest name in social media, Facebook, launched its
newest weapon – Graph Search. Unlike other search engines
like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, Graph Search gives a user-
specific search result to queries based on the data gathered
by Facebook from its billions of users around the world. It
makes finding the right places, photos, and people a lot
easier.
Graph Search makes it easier for you to find people who
share the same interest with you and establish a connection
with them. You can also specifically search for people who
visited France and connect with them if you’re planning a
vacation. Searching for photos of your friends taken on their
vacation in China will give you the search result that you’re
looking for – their pictures.
Using Graph Search
Step 1: Login to your Facebook Account
Graph Search is only available when you’re logged in.
When you first log in, graph search will prompt you to
take a tour.
Step 2: Type Your Query in the Search Box
The search box can be found right above the Update
Status Box. The words that you type in the search box will
determine the result that you’ll get. Given the versatility of
Graph Search, you can search for just about anything
provided that the information you’re looking for is related
to the data made available by Facebook users worldwide.
Facebook make suggestions based on the information available
in your profile like the college you attended. You can actually
search for anything you’re into like your
job, vacations, hobbies, and the likes.
For example, if you went to University of Chicago, you
can choose the following phrases to search for your
friends who also studied there.
• My friends who went to University of Chicago
• My friends who went to University of Chicago before 2012
• My friends who went to University of Chicago after 2012
• My friends who went to University of Chicago in 2011
• Remember to use simple phrases to explore connections.
Step 3: Explore the Search Result
You’ll get personalized results with great details. Using the
previous example, your search result will include a list of
your friends who went to University of Chicago. Each result
includes a summary of their profile information such as
where they work, their position, how long you’ve been
friends on Facebook, the course they took in college, their
current city, and their interests. This
information, however, varies depending on what’s been
made available by your friend.
Now that you have a fairly good understanding of how
Graph Search works, you can now start doing your
own searches. Listed below are some phrases that
you can use to start your search.
1. Photos of my friends and me
2. Restaurants nearby
3. Music my friends listen to
4. Photos I like
5. Photos of me that I like
6. Movies my friends like
7. Places I have been to
8. Restaurants my friends like
9. Restaurants that my friends like that I haven’t been to
10.Photos of my family
With Graph Search, you can ask just about anything related
to your connections or future connections for that matter.
So, ask away.
A little side note. Graph Search is still in beta and is currently
available for testing. You can join the waiting list
here https://www.facebook.com/about/graphsearch.
Another interesting tidbit is if you do a search and get
no FB results, you get a Bing SERP instead – so now
it’s even more important to be set-up with the BING
webmaster tools!
