Kuduro is a dance music genre that originated in Angola in the late 1980s. It was influenced by styles including semba, soca, and zouk. Kuduro developed as producers mixed different musical styles together and added African percussion to European and American beats. The up-tempo, danceable music with a 4/4 beat helped Angolans cope with civil unrest. It uses percussion, computer-generated sounds, and sometimes rap-like vocals.
