4. Mr. President
Men of Central Standard,
The work that we have put in over the past six months has gotten us to this place today…poised and ready to
take International by storm. We have poured countless hours of sweat, score study, and frustration into
perfecting our craft. Gentlemen, let me you tell you, THIS is the contest it will pay off. THIS is the contest
where Central Standard is forever on the radar of the society.
I cannot begin to describe how proud I am to be a member of this chorus. In such a short period of time, we
have gone from a small group of ‘breakaways’ to a completely independent, unique, and incredibly gifted
chorus 100% capable of standing on its own, now and into the future. We are here to stay, and this is the
contest that will prove it.
What we were able to accomplish at districts, our HIGHEST score at a district competition, after only 3 months
of work is INCREDIBLE. What are we capable of? What if we had 100% commitment from every member to do
everything that is necessary? We have drastically increased our commitment to this chorus since
January…every member should be commended for their dedication and effort…but can’t we go more????
Can’t we do more???? I believe so.
This opportunity we have, on Friday, July 8, is not only our chance to put Central Standard on the BHS map for
good, but it is the time we define ourselves as a chapter. What is the limit for us? Top 10? Top 5? Gold Medal?
Let what we accomplish on this day be the first BIG step in our new journey together. We will be as successful
as we want to be. I have no doubts.
I am honored to share the stage with you all. Let’s show the world OUR standard.
Matt

5. Grooming Guidelines
• Make sure your suit and shirt have been dry cleaned and pressed, ready to go for the contest. When you
get to “Wichatuni”, hang it up when you get settled into your room, so that the wrinkles fall out of it. You
might even hang it in the bathroom and run a hot shower with the door closed for a few minutes…the
steam will loosen up any stray wrinkles.
• Polish up your black shoes and get them nice and shiny for the stage. The sales clerk at Off Broadway
Shoes said the best thing to polish them with is Windex!
• Haircuts and grooming - pay a visit to your barber/stylist before we head off to “Wichatuni”. Have a neatly
trimmed neckline, and product for your hair, as appropriate (gel, pomade, forming cream, etc).
• Neatly trimmed and groomed facial hair (for those of us that have it), otherwise, it's cleanshaven for those
that aren't sporting a beard, goatee, or stache.
• Check those stray eyebrows, and nose/ear hair - trim them if needed (yep, we get em - we're guys - it
happens).
• Neatly trimmed and groomed fingernails, minus nailpolish...just checking to see how closely you're
reading. ;-)
• No colognes or aftershave in rehearsal or onstage during the contest performance.
• Drink plenty of water and hydrate all week.
