Omeka is a free, open source web publishing system that allows users to publish digital archives and curate online exhibits. It can be used by scholars, librarians, and others to share collections and exhibits. Omeka works by allowing users to publish cultural heritage objects, extend its functionality through themes and plugins, and curate exhibits from digital objects. However, Omeka may not be suitable for every project and requires consideration of aspects like the size of a digital collection and level of metadata and technical support needed.
