3. “ SECOND SHIFT” STAFFING ACADEMIC PRACTICE REAL WORLD LEARNING FAMILY ENGAGEMENT COLLEGE TO CAREER EXPOSURE Citizen Schools Pillars of Success
Development of the Core Program Model: 30-40% more learning time – About 380-400 hours per year Inclusion of the whole school population (or a whole grade) – To extend the opportunity to all students and to work closely with the principal and teachers to influence the whole school culture Deep partnership with the school – Collaboration with the principal and teachers to align small-group academic coaching to core academic subjects, school improvement priorities, and state standards “ Second-shift” of outside educators – On average, 16 paid, full-time and part-time “Teaching Fellows” will bridge the conventional and expanded day. The second shift also includes 40-60 volunteer experts – our “Citizen Teachers” Community and family engagement – Twice monthly Citizen Schools’ staff communicates with parents/guardians about student success and progress. Additional family and community events are held quarterly
