About the property
The property dates from the 1740's and is set in
its own secluded gardens.
The Guest holiday home
Situated in the property is this is just 40 minutes
south of La Rochelle in the heart of the Charente
Maritime. It has two double bedrooms, lounge
and fully equipped kitchen, television and radio.
The house is centrally heated. We are
surrounded by many places of interest such as
La Rochelle, the old naval town of Rochefort
(having a wonderful Saturday market), the The Guest holiday Home in the property
islands of Ile de Re and the Ile d'Oloron, Saintes and Cognac. We are 2 kilometers from
the small market town of Saint Porchaire. Restaurants are many from the Michelin starred
to the humble Relais.

2. South West France offers wonderful
scenery, beautiful Atlantique beaches,
good French food and close proximity to
the vineyards of Bordeaux. Overlooking
rolling French countryside, the house
has a verandah facing the swimming
pool which has ample terracing for sun
bathing. The verandah is ideal for dining
out in the evenings. We are in the area
of the La Rochelle micro climate and
second only to the South of France. This
means 2600 hours of sunshine per year
(the same as Nice), clear blue skies,
warm sunny days and the Atlantic
The surrounding area
breezes. We are blessed with mild
winters and warm summers. Our area is
famous for its seafood (especially oysters), Cognac, Pineau de Charente and a full variety
of French cheeses.
The Historic town of Saintes is 20 minutes away by car with Cognac 30 minutes further on.
The lovely Atlantic beaches are just over 1/2 an hour away while the old and cosmopolitan
town of La Rochelle takes 40 minutes. Bordeaux and Bordeaux Airport (Merignac) are
about 90 minutes away. Futuroscope is also 90 minutes away by car or the TGV. Paris
(Montparnasse) is 2 hours 40 minutes by TGV. Local activities include Golf, Fishing,
Sailing, Tennis, Windsurfing, Birdwatching, Riding, Cycling and Walking.
Getting here
There are daily low cost flights with Ryanair to La Rochelle and Poitiers from Stansted and
the Fly-Be service from Southampton and Birmingham also to La Rochelle. Easy Jet flies
from Bristol to La Rochelle. There are also flights from London Gatwick, East Midlands,
Manchester, Bristol and Dublin to Bordeaux. The TGV stops at Poitiers, Surgeres (then 30
minutes to us) and La Rochelle. The Channel Port of St Malo is 41/2 hours by car. Roscoff,
Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre are between 5 and 7 hours away. There is also the
Eurostar from London, Waterloo, which by changing in Lille (same platform) avoids the
Gard du Nord/Montparnasse station changeover in Paris, and arrives via Poitiers at
Surgeres in about 6 1/2 hours.
