early 1960s.

7. Landfill Method
• The land to be reclaimed is marked out by piling metal
beams into the seabed.
• Dykes (cement wall) are constructed by pouring cement
around the metal piling.
• A lagoon is formed as a result.
• Sand, rocks and soil are dumped into the lagoon, this will
force the trapped water out.
• When the reclamation is complete, Granite rocks are
placed at the outer wall of the dyke to protect the newly
reclaimed land.
• The new land is let to stablise for 8 to 10 years before any
construction is done on it.
