Reading Comprehension Defined

       Without comprehension, reading is mere verbalism.
       In reading comprehension we apply our understanding, and by means of our understanding we
       develop our physical, emotional and mental responses.

Basic Comprehension Skills
       In basic comprehension skills we have four categories
                 1. Literal Thinking Operations
       In literal thinking operations we apply first our observations, we remembering or find the
       significant details.
                 2. Inferential Thinking Operations
       We making our predictions, reading between the lines to become more understand and more
       clear, and afterwards we recognizing main ideas, and also applying our observations.
                 3. Critical Thinking Operations
       This is the time to distinguishing the fact details and evaluating according to criteria.
                 4. Creative Thinking Operations
       In this part we apply our own idea by comparing to another idea and afterwards, we create a
       more and good flow of information.

       The Questioning Technique to Develop Comprehension
          1. Recall Questions
           The purpose of this kind of this kind of question is to determine if the pupils have acquired
           or obtained a desire amount of factual information.
          2. Descriptive Questions
This type of question helps the pupils to put together and organized the fact which they
have gathered to make some sense out of their data.
3. Explanatory Questions
With this type of question pupils must tell why they think as they do, in short we must
explain the reason behind this answers.
4. Synthesizing Questions
The purpose of this question is to get the pupils to suggest the connections or relationships
that they believed contain data support and or what basis.
5. Judgmental Questions
In this question, the pupils required choosing among alternatives or making a judgment or
more possibilities are best according established criteria.


Bloom’s Taxonomy Applied to Questioning
Level I Knowledge- by simply knowing, in knowledge we understand, we recognized, and we
Level II know the details or information. Comprehension – recall and demonstrate the
ability to arrange and organize information mentally.
Level III Application- means applying we can use a rules, a definition, a classification system,
and also follow the directions, for more clear and detailed information.
Level IV- Analysis- by analyze, identify and finding, because this is the three things to
analyze.
Level V- Synthesis – in synthesis there are three creative thinking.
Developing original communication, making predictions, and solving problems for which
there is no single answer.
Level VI- Evaluation- requires the students to judge the merits of an aesthetic work, an idea,
or a solution to a problem.


Characteristics of Good Question


     1. A good question is simple and clear.
     2. A good question is definite.
     3. A good question is challenging and thought provoking.
     4. A good question is adapted to the age, abilities, and interest of the pupils.
5. A good question requires a extended response.


                 Literary Appreciations Skills
                 Teaching Literature to Children
                         Para no said teaching literature to children provides emotional release, and in
                 reading the writings of others. And through literature the child develops his tastes in
                 reading for pleasure.
                 Teaching literatures to children contributes to the development of their creative talents.



Poetry for Children

         According to Para no, it is an aesthetic expressions of thought and emotions in rhythmical
language.

Fables

         Short tales in which the chief characters are animals and sometimes inanimate object that act
and talk like human beings.

Legends

         It is a form of story containing miracles and wonders handed down from generation to
generation.
