Early China was located along the Yellow River in eastern central China. The Shang dynasty ruled China and were the beginning of the Chinese government. Shang leaders governed all aspects of society including religion, the economy, and warfare. Political power was passed down through the oldest male heirs. The Shang people developed bronze technology and left behind many written records. They lived in cities and practiced an agriculture-based civilization.
