7. Auburn's Beginning
• Auburn played its first game ever in 1892
under Head coach George Petrie at
Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Ga. Auburn won
that game 10-0. The two teams have
played annually since. Auburn holds a

8. First Bowl Game
• Auburn's first bowl appearance was the
1936 Bacardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba. It was
also the first and only time Auburn played
overseas. Auburn Tied with Villanova 7-7.

• John Heisman coached at Auburn from 1885 -

produced a Heisman Trophy winner.

15. Tigerwalk line Donahue
• Before each Auburn home game fans
Dr. To cheer on the team as they walk from Sewell
Hall to Jordan Hare Stadium. The tradition began in
1950 when a group of kids would walk up the street
to get autographs.
• The largest crowd occurred in 1989 before the first
ever home game against Alabama. 20,000 fans lined
a one block section of road outside the stadium.
Tigerwalk has since become the most copied tradition
in college football.
16. Toomers Corner
• The intersection of Magnolia and College
St. is known as Toomers Corner and has
been Auburns landmark for over 150
years.

17. War Eagle!
• There are many tales about where the chant "war
eagle" began, but the most popular account involves
the first Auburn game ever in 1892. In the stands that
day was an old civil war vet and his pet eagle that he
found injured on a battlefield. During the game the
eagle broke free and began circling the field. The
crowd began chanting "War Eagle!" as Auburn marched
toward the Georgia end zone and to victory. After the
game the eagle crashed to the field and died, but
according to the legend his spirit lives on every time
an Auburn man or woman yells "War Eagle!"
