Horses are from the cave of Chauvet from approximately 30,000 BC. One theory states that they are not 4 SEPARATE HORSES but the SAME horse throughout its lifespan. Then we move onto the Egyptians…This excerpt from the Book of the Dead depicts the soul of the deceased first being led by Anubis. Then the god weighs the deceased’s heart (depicting his soul) to see if he is worthy of entering the afterlife. Finally, we see Horus handing the departed over to Osiris, the lord of the underworld. Remember, to the Egyptians, this was nonfiction.

The Bayeux Tapestry, actually an embroidery, is 231 feet long and shows the history of the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings and the Norman takeover of England. It was begun as early as 1067 and is an invaluable primary source document of the history of the Norman Conquest (from the perspective of the Normans, of course). This particular scene shows the climax of the Battle where King Harold is cut down by a galloping horseman. He is NOT the one plucking the arrow from his eye (as has been mistakenly assumed by some). He is the one right under the “interfectus est.”
