The Miss Newark Pageant Presents the 1st Annual
FASHION IS ART FESTIVAL
An Evening of Art, Fashion and Music Celebrating the Greater
Newark Area
Thursday, September 29th from 5-10pm
Newark, NJ – September 12, 2011 – The Miss Newark Pageant Committee proudly presents the
first annual Fashion is Art Festival on Thursday, September 29th at the Prudential Center in Newark,
NJ. Fashion is Art is designed to unite the city of Newark through artistic expression and creativity as
well as encourage attendees to explore one of today's leading forms of art, fashion. “Fashion is an
amazing art form, the process in which clothing is made is truly extraordinary,” says Fashion is Art
Director, Catherine Payne. “Research shows that organized artistic activities have been shown to
positively impact the community giving residents an experience that would enrich their lives.
Through this festival, we hope to bring a positive light to the fashion industry in a manner that has
never been channeled.” Proceeds from the Fashion is Art Festival will benefit the Miss Newark
Pageant scholarship, which is awarded annually to pageant winners, participants and local college
bound residents.
Fashion is Art kicks off at 5pm with a collection of live fashion displays, sewing stations, interactive
learning exhibits and live entertainment for all ages. At 7pm, the star-studded red carpet begins,
followed by an extravagant fashion show featuring local up and coming fashion designers.
Diamonnique Lassiter, Miss Newark 2010 will host this fashion filled evening with Hot 97 and New
Jersey's own DJ Wallah providing music. “This festival will honor the fashion lover in everyone and is
an opportunity for everyone to discover new and exciting aspects about fashion as an art form as
well as today's fashion trends,” say Lassiter.
